"NEW! Old Abe Multi-use Trail
Cornell is the trailhead for a wonderful, new 20-mile, unique trail connecting Brunet Island State Park (near Cornell/Holcombe) and Wissota State Park (near Chippewa Falls).
Along with a scenic ride following the Chippewa River, there are stopping places for educational tours, plus an abundance of recreational activities at either end.
Stop at the monument and 10-foot statue of "Old Abe," the bald eagle mascot of Wisconsin's Civil War 12th Regiment along the Chippewa River. Old Abe, it is said, screamed and swooped, and led troops into battle, to the chagrin of the opposing forces. Enjoy the special wayside wildflower park and trail that are part of the Old Abe exhibit.
