rhino carb jets
#1
I recently bought a "06 Rhino 660 and I live in SoCal (sea level) but plan to use it 3-4 time a year hunting at high altitude (6000-10000 ft.). I recently came back from a trip the first time having it out at about 8000 ft and it ran really bad.
Is there an easy way to adjust the carb in the field to compensate for the altitude without having to re-jet everytime i use it at different places?
does the carb have adjustments for air/gas mixture?
If not, how hard is it for a novice mechanic (myself) to re-jet the card and what would the recomemnded jet size be?
do I want to lean it or enrich it at altitude? (this may be a dumb ?, but the mechanic at the local dealer was no help, he didnt know)
thanks for any help.

You want to lean it out, the higher you go. The down side to that, is when you come back down in alt. the jetting is too lean, which can cause damage. Being too rich, will only waste gas, and maybe foul a plug.
Lots of guys have tried to lean it out by putting holes in the air box cover. About 6, 1 inch holes should do it. Keep them covered, with duct tape or plastic covers, when you are at lower altitudes, and as you feel the motor get sluggish, and smoke as you assend, remove the covers, one at a time, til it runs better. When you come back down....dont forget to recover those holes.
Heres A good article on jetting http://www.motorcyclecruiser.c...jet_kits_carburetion/
and it also lists the symptoms of lean and rich jetting.
