Default Tightening *&%@! Durablue axle nut

My durablue axle nut keeps loosening on me because I can't get it tight enough. It is a split half nut with a set screw that spreads the split to lock it. Does anyone have a good method of keeping the axle from turning when I put a B.F. crescent wrench on it? Any tips are appreciated. P.S. I don't have two Gorillas around to hold the tires.

Sometimes I put a long screw driver under the swing arm through the sprocket and brake rotor. That works! It still works loose, even with loctite. I hate durablue!

Place the quads front tires against a wall, then tighten the adjustment on the parking break temporaly until it's so tight you need two hands to press and ingage the parking brake, then tighten the axle when finished just undo and readjust the parking break back.............I hope you still have the parking break or you'll need a volunteer to press the rear break.

I always use my girlfriend to sit on the quad and hold the rear brake with her foot. Works pretty good for the axle nut.

I can't believe I never thought of using the rear brake. I'll have to try that. Thanks guys.

Easier.

Just put the quad on the ground, and put the wrench on the nut. Pull the quad back while holding the wrench stationary and the weight of the rolling quad will tighten the nut for you.

If you need it tighter, roll it forward while letting the wrench rotate forward, hold the wrench stationary and then pull back on the grab bar again to roll the quad back and tighten the nut some more.

Works like a champ.

Thats what I've been doing slappie. I need to get it tighter than possible with that method. I even considered starting it up and putting it in reverse with the wrench on it but thought better of it.

Dang! Are you sure you need to get it that tight!

The brake method seems good then but be careful you don't go too tight.

Maybe more locktight?

Yeah if you get it too tight your axel will be in a bind, ya don't want that. Tighten it however tight it needs to be, I used a 24" pipe wrench. I think the problem, just my personal opinon, is in the set screw. This is what is supposed to keep it from comming loose. I was going to try and find a bolt instead of that little allen so I could tighten it more. BUT the last time I had to tighten it I got it VERY tight with loctite on the allen and it hasn't worked loose since.

You may have stripped the thread inside the locknut, thats why it keeps coming loose. Its very easy to do this. I did it on my lonestar anti-fade locknut. Had to throw it away. Now Lonestar have made improvements to the product. I have since gone back to the stock locknuts. No more problems.
