I have a Kodiak 450, the winch is bolted on. I need advice as where to put the solenoid and where to put the control switch thingy. Any other tips will help.

 

As for the solenoid I'm not sure exactly where it goes. But a good spot for your controls would be on the front rack, on the left side, position it in that area wherever you feel most comfotable with it, you can ask your dealer about the solenoid if it becomes a problem,

The left side of the rack is a good place for the control. I mounted the solenoid on the left rear side mounted to the outside of the seat storage box.
