PLSE HELP
MY 1998 BANSHEE HAS BROKEN RINGS ON 2 SEPERATE TRIPS AFTER DOING ABOUT 1000 Km HIGHSPEED RIDING.
THE RING LOCATING PIN IN THE GROOVE IN THE PISTON
MOVES INWARD CAUSING THE RING TO TURN. THE OPEN END OF THE RING CATCHES THE TRANSFER PORT AND BREAK THE RING AND PISTON.
MODS ON MY BIKE: FMF FATTY ; BOOYSENS RAD BLOCKS ;
W/B BOOSTER BOTTLE : PRO-DESIGN FILTER ; SUPER COOLER AND THE NORMAL BOLT-ON'S AFTERMARKET RIMS ; TYRES ; TANK ; BUMPERS ; SKID PLATES ; NERF BARS

ANYBODY KNOW WHY THIS IS HAPPENING ??

Now you say the holding pin for the rings is moving in? I would not fool around and get new pistons, just to avoid that.

I just rebuilt mine. It leaned out all of a sudden and the piston came apart. How are your plugs looking. You may have a "leaning" situation too.

comment: 20:1 oil mixture is pretty fat????

Thats an interesting concept Ohton, more oil makes more hp. I ahve read that before, Jennings maybe? It turns out that the more oil, the leaner the mixture! Less fuel make sit to the combustion chamber. I have actually seem people burn there engines up from using too much oil and not adjusting the jetting. Nobody will beleive me about making more power by using more oil! Oh well, i guess I will just keep wearing them out! Do you have any other info pertaining to this? Oh by the way, put some wiseco's in that bike. Those pistons are obviously only going to cause you tear up your topend. I have ran the same wiseco's in my drag motor for a year with no problem! Thats a good piston in my book.

I had this problem with the Niks ProX pistons twice. Both times caused lots of damage to my 380 big bore banshee I now have wisecos just put them in hope they are better.

Ohton when you were saying 20:1 were you talking about natural oils and not synthetics? I run my Banshee 40:1 on yamalube 2R. The main reason I do so is because it runs fine at that ratio and it's easier to just pour one bottle of 2R into a 5 gallon dump can.

I've seen the same think happen to 2 sets of wiseco pistons.The cause we finally found was stripped threads on the top of the carb.The top would actually pop up one thread at a time without actually unscrewing (clamp would not let it turn). It would be fine on short trips or longer ones as long as we stopped and tightened the cap.But long trips or forgetting to tighten resulted in 2 sets of broken pistons.the first was completly smashed the scond set had the exact problem you saw.
I would think an air leak anywhere in that area might cause the same thing.
