Axle bearing problem on my 01 Raptor
Today I finally went riding after all the constant rain we are having here in the upper east coast. I loaned my friend my Raptor and during the course of the day he was telling me he keeps hearing noises. Well I get on it and I hear it as well. We pick up the front end spin the wheels no noise. We pick up the rear, spin it and there the noise was evident. Seems like the 01's have a crappy locknut caused the rear to be sloppy. It seems to also have affected my chain also cause there is a lot of slack in it now as well.
My question is...obviously the bearings are shot. Would I have to replace the rear axle carrier as well? Also is there a fix for the crappy 01 axle nut problem I keep hearing about? I hear they fixed this from 02 and up.

This is another little talked defect in the 2001 model that Yamaha updated for 2002. Like airraptor said, you can get a GYTR locknut that is specific to the 2001 model. I went through the same crap but opted to buy a 2002 axle setup. You can get a set of axle wrenches from MotionPro. Call them direct if your dealer doesn't stock them. You will have them in 2-3 days.
