buying a banshee?

Take a good look at the bike. If it looks like it's in good shape then it probably is. Take a good close look at it. Is there paint chipping anywhere?? Is there wiring that has been repaired? How are the tires? Are they stock? How much are they worn? All of these will give you a little insight on how much it's been ridden and how well it's been taken care of.
In my opinion, if it's a 99 and going for the price you're talking about I would take a good look at it. That would be a pretty good price out here. Try not to get attached to a particular bike unless you know you can't go wrong. Get some sort of idea from your buddies.. they will probably be willing to go with you to look at the bike.
Good luck!

I would not reccomend this for your first quad either. Because the Banshee is a lot of quad for a Beginner. And we do not want to see any one get hurt.
I would say to get a Blaster for your first Quad.

Stock Compression should be..... (per Cylinder)
Sea Level 130 psi
1000Feet 124 psi
2000Feet 118 psi
3000Feet 112 psi
4000Feet 106 psi
5000Feet 100 psi
Use a compression gauge. You should be able to get or borrow one from a local Auto Parts store.

The question I would ask is why if the bike is stock and it hasn't been riddedn excessively why does it have a new clutch? Who did the work? Also the price sounds just a little high for a stock shee. I would recommend though getting what your friends ride, or at least something that is in the same class. Also, the shee IS NOT a good track bike so if you not into dune riding I would go with a 4 stroke. The basic rule of thumb is:
Dunes= shee, raptor, ds,
Track= Any of the 400's including the warrior, 250r and its clones
Woods= hard to beat the warrior, but the 400's do well here.
