What might cause a flat spot on a cam lobe ??
There is a 1/8 inch wide flat spot near the top of the exhaust lobe on my Warrior cam ? The corresponding rocker arm has some weird wear (not nice and smooth) as well. Anybody know what might cause this ? The cam was recently replaced and looked perfectly normal prior to installation....
I'm guessing this is linked to my overheating problem....
Thanks, Eric

What might cause a flat spot on a cam lobe ??
I put a good amount of assembly lube on the cam lobes upon install. The cam was OEM but not brand new (in spec) and in great shape. As for the valve adjustment - I checked after break-in and both valves were fine - not tight - if anything a tad sloppy? I did not install new rocker-arms but they looked good ? Could that be a problem ??

How did you break in the cam? In a car engine whenever you put in a new cam you have to rev it between 2500-3500 rpms for maybe 20 minutes for the pushrods (or rocker arms) to seat on the cam lobes. If you let it idle for too long before breaking in the cam, it will overheat the cam and wear down the lobe very quickly.
Whether this applied to quad engine and cams, I don't know, but is is something worth checking into.

What might cause a flat spot on a cam lobe ??
At this point I'm leaning toward cam/rocker mis-match causing the excessive wear. But....before I get new cam/fockers/shafts I want to ensure I've located the problem. Here's something to ponder....
What if the valve spring (or something) is not letting the valve open far enough and therefore, the rocker stops short and the cam/rocker begins to wear excessively. I should be able put the head /cyl back on and test this out.....
Is this a goofy idea ?? Comments ?

I got the rocker arms out and it definately looks like things got pretty hot up there. The rocker arms are blued about half way to the pivot from the pad side (where they ride on the cam) - this is not normal - correct ? Thay are also scored and not smooth. I checked the valves for bind at max open and they are fine.
My next check will be to see if I'm getting proper oiling to the head. Please see this new post on that subject: Warrior Head Oiling Check
