Default ?? Is it safe to get an 87 banshee ??

I found a 87 that runs great, aftermarket bumpers, K&N filters, extra swing arm/ axle/ brakes/ suspension parts, $1450 obo...It looks like its in pretty good shape by looking at the picture, I just want something to tear around on and really dont want to spend alot.

Any replies would be great,

Mark

Friend has one... Runs pretty good. But just watch out for the shee's in general they tend to be alot of upkeep involved. And the J arm's on the 87's a kinda unique & special.

Is that a good thing or a bad thing Here is my plan, buy one like this, around 1500 and buy works tr shocks with rezzies and new wheels, pipe and silencer setup strip the frame all down and repaint it or polish (can you polish the frame?) and then get a front yellow fullbore plastic, wont get the rear, Ive seen a setup without the rear, just the frame and thought it looked pretty sweet, besides saving some $$$.

Tell me what you think,

Mark

I am doing the same thing soon ,I am going to make sure the engine runs REALLY nice. I dont want to have a trick Banshee with engine problems. That is what I am planning to do also becuase you have enough money to make it the way you want it without building it from the ground up. Saving you big money.

I got one, runs friggin grand! They didnt change anything but those crappy upper J arms from 87-03. Mine was ported, bigger carbs, and had a few other mods when I bought it. BOY DOES SHE CRUISE! I take alot of better lookin stuff, its kinda got the sleeper effect. Alot of people are suprised when I take em on my old 87 crapper against their brand new 03. Its a good feeling. But with another 1500 in parts, work, and other stuff, you'd have ONE NICE shee! Id really recommend some Keihin PWK 28mm carbs, 1/2 inch reed spacers, and a little port work to livin yer beast up! You can get a 420cc big bore kit for less than 1000 installed, now that would make it a serious sleeper. But Im alll into speed and no looks. But looks like u are into looks. But sounds like your idea would rock. I wish I had that kinda money to put into mine. Keep us updated.

I would advise taking someone with experience with Banshees to take a good look at it, as long as the engine is healthy and the frame is straight you should be ok. The Banshee engines are very spendy to repair if you can't do it yourself or have lotsa good friends

Hey 87Banshee250sx, whew that was hard, I like speed too, would really like ALOT of back-break'n bottom-end, but why not have looks also, the best of both worlds Im going to start with looks first cause Im coming off a UTE and will take some time to get used to the power, and to get some more money, since its on your icon it looks like you wheely some, could you tell me how the shee would do with different sprockets, tires...

Later,

Mark
P.S. Ill be sure to update you on my progress

The frame cannot be polished, you could chrome it, or paint or powder coat it, but no polishing.
