Best Air Filter/Adapter
#1
I did a search and could not find a definative answer.
My K&N that I had in the stock box, took a dump on me. The gasket that went between the air box and the filter tore. So I have decided to just buy a new filter that has the bracket that I can put hose clamps on.
I remember somebody saying that the GTR? one had short flanges and the clamps/filter would come off.
So what is the recommended on around here and where can I get it?
Thanks

I've had 3 diffrent filter adaptors.
The first was the GYT-R adaptor, It's flanges was too short & when I tightened the clamp on my K&N it ripped the boot on the filter.
I then got the Pro Design Pro Flow, it had longer flanges & worked much better IMO.
I wanted more flow & since 95% of my riding is in the dunes I ordered a Raptor adaptor & got rid of my airbox all together.
If you want to keep your airbox go with the Pro Design
If you want max air flow & don't need an air box go with the raptor adaptor.
Here is a link to the Raptor Adaptor Pic

The only problem with not having an airbox is that the headers are right there, that means your sucking in hot air. Also if your air filter gets too close over time it will start to melt or fall apart. I am thinking of chopping my stock air filter box but leaving part of the side on where the header is.

the cool air overcomes the small piece of the head pipe that itis close too,so i dont think it effects that much.
I run an adapter with no airbox and the foam has held up fine...no burns or melting..

I'm not worried about melting I just want it to get cooler air into the engine.

I'll mount it to the frame with a tie wrap & the air box mounting hole.
I'm still working out how to fabricate it & may make it long enough to act as a splash guard too.

I'm using the pro design adapter and k&n filter and have had no problem with fit and finish. As Moose stated, the pro design flanges are longer and the rubber on the filters fits great. The raptor adaptor looks trick. I have no experience with the GYTR filter adaptor, so can't help you with that one.
