Defect in new Yamaha quad
Out of the hundreds of 01's sold in New Zealand there has only been ONE 01 trans failure, and that was on a fully built raced Raptor, and they used 01 gears back in it, now 686/FCR/ 63 rwhp and ZERO problems. Yes some 01's went................... I know more guys who have tranny problems with Banshee's than what we've seen on Raptors. Our 01, chassis number 16 has had the butt riden out of it by alot of riders and is still running strong.......................... best damn quad we've owned.
I'm buyin the first 450 I can get, you guys can sit and wait............... and get roosted !!

I love my 2001 raptor so much it haul's ball's and beats most modded 02's and up. But i have to say Yamaha by themselve's have disapointed me, it seems that yamaha spend's more time making fast quad's than using common sense on little part's. I mean come on, I'm spending 100 to 400 in repairs and I've only riden it 10 times in the past 7 months (Back bearing's, new chain, sproket's, broken studs, cheap bolt's breaking...etc) My tranny is strong right now and my one way works 1 day and doesnt the other. But i stick with my raptor so i can replace evrySh!tty part that break's and replace it and make it the quad i love!

Yeah think Ridleys right, took 12 months of concentrated riding on my 02 before it was chain and sprocket time (paddles really do kill the chain and front sprocket), our 01 did 18moths before needed a chain and sprockets change but they where well and truely worn out..............
One ways, yup 01 went at 12 months, 02 still fine. The Yamaha rear axle bearings have bugger all grease in them, 01's went after 12 months but had a plus 5" durablue from very early on. I pull the axle from new on my 02 and popped the sbearing eals and filled em with grease then re inserted the bearing seal, then fill the gap between the bearing seal and the outer seal also with grease, big difference, 02 with wide axle is still on stock bearings, but they will go eventually.
Raptorjay: I feel for you poor buggers who have had a tranny go don't get me wrong, I think Yamaha should have pulled all the stops and fixed things ASAP when people did have problems. What i'd like to know is how many have actually blown ? not the "friend of a buddies heard of some one bull" but real stats ? I think the starter clutch is going to be the biggest on going pain in the rear for Raptor owners in the future.
What scares me is the major problems seen with the WR450 dirtbikes with shearing off the flywheel key due to the electric starter ! This is in endemic proportions down under...................
