I would like to make a cool movie of me and a few buddies riding but have to know where to get started.. I have a Geforce 4 ti4600 graphics card with video in and out but just need some advice and the best capture software and stuff like that.. Thanks in advance..

This depends on whether you have a DV camcorder. If you have a DV then you need a firewire(1394) card. If you have an analog camera (Hi8 or VHS) you can use your Ti4600's VIVO capability to capture with. Then you can use something like one of these programs for editing:

Ulead Videostudio:

Pinnacle Studio 8:
http://www.pinnaclesys.com/ProductPa...77&Langue_ID=7

Microsoft Moviemaker 2(free but you need XP):
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/m...oviemaker2.asp

There are other, more professional programs available but they are more spendy.

That should be all you need. Make sure you have plenty of HD space as video requires a fair amount(For DV footage, you will need aprox 2 gig for every 10 minutes of video you capture).

While I use a mac and FCP4, I have seen some videos that were very well done produced on a PC. More important than having the tools is knowing what to do with them. Having an eye for composition and a a good sense for editing is more important for making *good* video than what program you are using.

If you got a Mac, do it on that with Adobe Premier! Its the best out there but takes alot to learn how to use it. I got a buddy that makes his own DVD's and they are just like the ones you get at the store. But, if you want to use windows and still get almost the same affect as Premier use this program Here, this is the easiest way to get menus and video custom made at a fraction of the cost. I had all the above and use windows and this is what I have found to be the best for a windows version PC. Check it out, you will not be disappointed at all.

Premiere is ok but, a little outdated (version 7 is around the corner though). Most semi-pros are either using Final Cut Pro on the mac or, on the PC, Avid XpressDV or Vegas Video. Of course the studio kind of pros use setups from Avid that cost from $25K up to $150K.

As far as DVDs are concerned, iDVD on the mac is a great way to make a professional looking dvd without knowing all of the complications of dvd authoring.

Yes, you are correct. All Avid programs are great but I dont think he was going to get that serious. Final Cut Pro is awesome to but I think Neo DVD would be a great starter program for anyone. Way better than the Windows XP movie maker but is the same easy way to use.

I also use Vegas Video....I don't have a lot of experience, but have messed around with others, one being Adobe Premier, and I had no clue what I was doing with it...hehe. Vegas Video is very easy to use, everything is laid out nicely and you can edit really fast with it. I had watched a friend use it one time, and he was an expert with it so he was flying through like crazy, but I remembered enough to do up a couple of small videos on my own. You can download them at WWW.VTEXTREME.COM . They don't have any fancy transition effects or anything, but I think they came out okay for a first attempt and an afternoons work.

My friend has made a full production retail video using his PC and Vegas.

The easiet editing program i've used is unlead 7. You can take your whole video and disect very easily. You can find the spot you want in the video click start let the video run till desired point and just hit stop and it makes a copy of just that part of the video as a clip. Clip transactions are easy too. Once you have all you video clips in the order you want you jus find the transactionn effect you want and put it between the clips you want. I know there are a lot better programs but for someone starting out i think this is the easiest to use
