A buddy of mine is going through the same delemma, Works or Elka's. And are the more expensive setups really worth the extra money is you don't race?

I have Elka long travel and absolutely love them but believe that ANYTHING would be better than stock. It depends on how you use your Raptor - for heavy competition the Elka, PEP, or Axis are the only choices. For trail riding, dunes, and occasional competition, the Works will do just fine for about half to price.

I have the Works fronts on both my Warrior and Raptor and basically like them. On the food chain, they are an improvement over stock but not as good as the Elkas or the other higher priced shocks. If your goal is to replace a broken or leaking front shock and get a little better handling, then the Works fit the bill. If you are race oriented then the high end shocks would likely be more applicable.

Although I dont have any experience with Custom Axis or TCS I hear thay are very nice.

If I were to do it over again, I would probably upgrade the shocks at the same time as longer a-arms and go with the Elka, Axis, or TCS. Pay now or pay later !?

Thats cool, I really appreciate everyones feedback. I am mainly a trail rider and dunes person, I do not track race. I feel that the works will be great for it, but do i get the triple rate, double rate or does it matter. The elkas are really $$$$$ and the works are half the price, but im looking for something better than stock but I cant see spending 700.00 just for trail riding. thank everyone...

For basic trail riding I'd go with the non-resivor triple rates. If ya think you'll be riding aggressively enough to heat them up, go with the resivors. Also, I ordered mine with adjustable pre-load and I think it was worth it. Otherwise, there are no adjustments at all unless ya go with the higher end shocks.

I have the works triple rates on my 02 Raptor and noticed a handling difference that was worth the price. As everyone said before, get the Elka, Axis, or PEP if you race. I dont race and they work fine. Talked with a performance shop guy and he said the reservoirs helped dissipate heat for very aggressive riding. I am thinking about adding the reservoirs. Bottom line, they were worth the cash, get them.

I've had Works triple rates with res's on my Raptor for two years now and have not had a problem. I even race MX and they work great. I have three buddies with Elka's on their quads and when I have rode their quads I can't tell a difference between the shocks. So I would say that any aftermarket shock set up for your weight and riding style will be 100% better than stock.
