i have a 01 scrambler 500 and i now want to add another quad to my garage what do u guys think should i get the predator or the yfz 450? iv been hearing sick stuff about the yfz.

 

The YFZ is much lighter and more powerful but i would wait to see the bugs get worked out.

 

are there any know problems with the yfz so far. i heard that something wasent right with the predator tranny?

 

None that i have heard of, they are so new. I am not saying there will be, just err on the side of caution.

 

Its not that there is something wrong witht eh Predator trannys but they are just really notchy till you put some time on it.

The Predator is a great quad. I can speak from experience as I have one. I can not speak for the YFZ but from what I've heard about it it is good and bad. But just as it was when the Pred came out I wouldnt pay attention to too much of what is being said about it till you get one and ride it.

 

Viper, that is a tough call on which to purchase. The new 450 is certainly tempting. I don't know what your time frame is on purchasing one, but I would keep your eyes and ears open and check into these forums, regularly in the next few weeks. When the Preds started hitting the street within about a month, I'd say 90% of all issues (pros and cons) were discussed in detail, and people became aware of what the new predator was all about. Same thing will happen with the new Yammy and any other new quad that comes out.

 

I have heard Yamaha has put 4 years in developing the 450.....I would like to think it wouldn't have too many problems based on that....but ya never know.

 

What is the stock compression on a predator?..........
don't you think that if you put a higher compression piston in it, it would run like the yfz?.......seems like it would........cuz it made all of the difference on my rappy..........

the pred doesn't have anything off of the line and it has all of the top end (high rpm) power...........it seems like if you made it have more torque (higher compression) it would just fly!

I dunno.......it's just a thought

 

hey, well i dont know about the YFZ but the predator has been proven time and time again against alot of todays top quads. sure the yfz is light and has pretty good power. but the predator has more things then just 1 or 2 good virtues. its power to weight ratio maybe lower than the YFZ but power to power the pred is stronger and i think you should really look into the predator. with the money you would save on getting it instead of a YFZ. you could make it even more awesome than it already is. jus my 2 cents, lol. aiight den -PEACE-[img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif[/img]

 

I bought a yfz and totally love it however the predator is a good machine. I put a k&n clamp on filter kit on my friends predator with a dynojet kit and it screams. My yfz is still totally stock but the predator has more power until I get my sparks pipe.
