Utah ,Oregon Or ST. Anthoney's for a BIG TRIP?
Just want to know the dfiffrences and the best spot to visit for a big trip coming out from california.
I may leave this year or wait till next.
When is the best time for dunning season?
who has the most restrictions?
And who has the best dunes and make it worth the 13 plus hour drive there..
Or if there is a big event going on at one of these venues that i cant miss..
and any contacts to be made if i go with the family, not sure if i can get someone to tag along with, and need someone to ride with..
Thanks in advance..rap03

Hey, I have similar question posed in the dune forum........I basically have only been to Little Sahara in Utah and was wondering what other good dunes are out here (in the west US) So I'm interested in some of the responses you'll be getting.
I can help you out with the Little Sahara info though.
Best Time: I like Late Sep. through Early May. Thats when it's not too hot.....I'd say October and April tend to be the ideal time....not too hot not too cold. The only restriction is that you must have a flag....and of course your rigs have to be licensed.....
I love these dunes....however I don't have anything to compare them to. This year after the AMA held there event in SLC all of the riders stopped by these dunes on their way to Vegas...so If they know about them they must be somewhat good.

Well, we just got back from Lil Sahara Utah and St. Anthony's Idaho - and all I can say is, GO TO IDAHO!!!!
My god those are the biggest most awesome sand dunes! Bowls that are over 200ft deep! And a couple hundred yds from one side to the other at the top. Utah was fun, but Idaho F'king rocked!!
Go to St. A's - you will not regret it!

They are big, the got Small bowls Big Bowls and huge sand mountain which people race up....I don't know the number of square miles the of the dunes....you can party at sand mountain or if you have a family and want something low key there are plenty of other places there to camp......like I said though I don't have anything to compare them too.

I'll go along with Raptoid. I've been to Florence Oregon once, and St Anthony many times over the last 10 years. Hard to beat St A. Haven't been to Little Sahara yet. Just about everyone I meet at St A that's been to other dunes (including California dunes) say its as good or better than the others. One big "but"--in Oregon you will have much more power due to sea level versus 5000 feet elevation.
