no on the trail i could spank this kid so badly. i could have a 250ex or blaster and still run circles around this kid on the trail. like i said, hes a grandma hick type of kid that really wanted a sportsman but his dad got him a predator for christmas. he has every toy. (sleds, quads, gokarts, dirtbikes) it really annoys me that he can beat me. he said he was shifting without the clutch. im not about to do that, its not worth it. so i guess im screwed. o well, i can do no footers and hopefully heelclickers soon and hes still thinks its amazing if the front end end comes up four inches when he pops the clutch. thanks for the replies anyways, later

 

In stock form, the Raptor is bottlenecked. If anyone wants the fastest and best stock quad then don't buy a Raptor. It is a crying shame to see a stock Raptor gasping to get more air. It is really cruel - probably why the real Raptors went extinct. Yamaha should make you sign a paper promising that you will modify it to its full potential. If you want to start piling on the upgrades then a 660cc engine is a real good start. If you are concerned about the dust, then get a lid from EHSRacing. Bottom line is you have to open that airbox if you plan to get any power out of that engine. It wouldn't matter if you had a 1500cc engine if it had to pull air through that airbox.

The other thing you can do is change your sprockets and start out dragging in 2nd gear. Yamaha can't go to a 14 tooth front since no production quad can exceed 75 mph.

If you don't plan on opening that airbox then you better start practicing more tricks. [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif[/img]

I rode both a Raptor and a Predator..it seemed like the Raptor accelerated better..but once te Predator hits 6th gear it pulls away because it has a higher top speed atleast thats what it seemed like to me..All depends on the rider too I guess...

 

The Predator doesnt have a 6th gear man!

I dragged a Predator several months back at "Rumble on the Ridge". We must have raced a dozen times. Nearly everytime I pulled out front and let the whole way until the very end, maybe 200-300 feet later he comes whizzing up next to me. I don't think he actually passed me, but he came up quickly at the end. His ride was stock, in fact, it was two days old. Mine, well, I have a full exhaust and jetting....I thought I was gonna crush him....not the case. That 500 motor really cranks out on top.... I'm pretty impressed. I still wouldn't trade my rappie for anything else....except maybe that new YFZ450....we'll see how it fares with the rest.... RIDE ON!

Yeah, you're probably right. If he had a pipe and filter and jets, he would've smoked me. Makes me want to go get a 686 kit from Trinity! Maybe I'll just trade up for a YZF450....it's supposed to run 15.5 in a quarter mile pavement run.... Hmmmm...
