I think it is unbelievable that Muscle Mustang and Fast Ford gained 55 rear wheel horsepower (from 365 rwhp to 420!) by adding long tube headers, an H pipe, flowmaster bolt on cat back, and a drop in K&N filter! Then they said with just a Lightning upper blower pulley (which I think you can get for really cheap) it would have around 490-510rwhp! After this they said add a chip, slicks, skinnies, and take off the front anti-roll bar, and you would be looking at 10's in the quarter, all with factory reliabilty and driveability! SIMPLY AMAZING
Myself personally, I drive a 1990 F150 with the 5.0 and I have raced a 1999 4.6 F150, 2002 Dodge Ram with the 360, 1997 Silverado with the 350 Vortec, 1993 Silverado with the 350 non vortec, 1999 F250 with the 5.4, and a 1994 S10 with the non vortec 4.3 and the only ones I have lost to are the 2002 Ram by one truck, and the 1997 vortec 350 Silverado by one truck. I think it hangs fairly well for an older truck. What I think would be fun is to either put in a 02 or up Lightning drive train in (engine, tranny, and rear end) and have something for those new 5.3 Silverados, and Mustang GT's (do you think it would beat it?) or get a crate engine, whether 347 or 302 I don't know. What are your guys's opinions on this?

If you want to make that pickup run better without breaking the bank put a 351 in it. Fairly easy conversion and you have all the 5.0 stuff heads etc. you can use. The new Lightning 5.4 would work great but you'll spend a million dollars doing it. Had a 99 F150 4x4 Lariat and put a Powerdyne 6 lb supercharger on it and it was a hoot. Ford is on the right track with the mod motors. People get all glassy eyed talking 351 and 427 wedge motor but that's pretty old tech and works better in people's (nostalgic) minds than reality. Yes I've been in 427 side oiler motored cars. This new stuff is great.
