I think I've got my second gear starts down now.. so will see how those Raptors do now.. I'd say the YFZ will have maybe a 5 bike length lead by the time you click 5th gear...

I'll be interested to check top speed out this weekend with a GPS and let everyone know what I get at WOT in 5th. I will also have a stock rappy check his top speed and maybe a stock DS if he joins us.

You say that a raptor will beat a 450 in a drag. Just how modified is this raptor. a 450 will walk off
& leave a raptor so bad that the drag strip would have to be really long for the raptor to catch it. like over a 1/4 of a mile. And I don't know to many hills or drag spots longer than that. But a Raptor has a alot more potential in it, if you want to make an all out drag bike. But just piped against piped. SEE YA!!
But completely stock Vs stock, I can't say. Because i never raced one stock Vs stock. Because
I will only speak from experience. But my bets on the 450....

Top speed is so over rated. How often is actual top speed accomplished when your riding. I'm more concerned about which bike will do 0 - 60mph fastest. "infact that sounds like a good topic to start"
I'll have to do that.

I agree, 0-60mph is more importent anyways. Oh, and for y'all that say that your stock quads are doing any more than 75mph are wrong, or your gps is wrong.
The limit on stock quads is 75mph. Nothing STOCK will go faster then that, atleast from yamaha. But I am almost certain that rule applies to all atv's.
Why do you think yamaha would restrict the crap out of there new "race quad". They can't put out something that will go even faster top speed, there would be way too many law suits. As it is, I think yamaha will get some from this yfz450, which in my opinion is sooo stupid.
If there where no rules, yamaha would have put a good exhaust (like the one found on the yz450) on the yfz450 from the factory.
Too many law suits!! The rule is 75mph or under. I am suprised that that one guys grandpa doesnt know that (that has the best job in the world testing quads)!

a power valve does nothing but change the port timing during the range of rpm's. It doesnt give more hp, let alone 24 extra. I realize that in order to add a power vavle that the cylinder would need to be redesigned. In that case maybe yamaha could clean their port design up to gain the extra hp. But an extra 24 horse is pretty drastic, and 65hp stock is going to be too much for the general rider. I think grampa is getting to "that" age...lol. Did he tell you how he had to walk through the rain and snow in -20 degree weather also? jk

Been there, done that. YFZ by 5 quad lenghts and I'm not broke in yet. I heard a guy saying that the top speed is 75, I dont know if that is tru or not ,but if you unscrew the governer screw up on the thumb throttle you will gain top end speed( I gained about 4 mph)

Raced a 426 dirt bike and hung right with him till top speed!

Banshees dont have 41 hp stock and I highly doubt there will ever be one with 65hp stock. When I was a little kid, my grandfather told me that my great grandmother had a pet dinosaur when she was a kid. I'm pretty sure now that he was exaggerating a bit.

I also highly doubt that all 2 stroke motors will cease production in 2006 so a redesigned Banshee would not surprise me. In fact I would think its pretty likely they would redesign it to meet the new standards and still haul a$$ just like Yamaha is constantly doing with 2 stroke boat motors.

There is no rule/law that says a quad can't go faster than 75 stock. Although it is unlikely that one will ever be made again that will, there have been quads that would. There are a few in production now like the Banshee that likely would break 75 with a real small rider, optimal atmospheric conditions and good fuel.

Faster = Top speed
Quicker = From point A to point B first on a given distance...
