not to pee in anybody's wheaties but the Raptor was a proven engine until they put it in a quad frame.

Proven in another environment means nothing. Take it from an 01 Raptor owner.....wait and be safe. The 01's are still faster though.

 

The only reason my 01 Raptor has been ok is from what I have learned to do here on these forums and from garyc660R.

I found another good way to prevent problems with my 01 Raptor is to put sta-bil in the gas tank, take the battery out, and then throw a blanket over it. This seems to work the best!!!!

YEah,the 660 engine had no problem with its transmission pulling one skinny dual sport wheel,but the heavy weight and traction of a quad is a lot more stress than a dirtbike....have you ever tried to pedal a 4 wheel bike???At least yamaha thought this time and made the gears wider so only time will tell....I am going to wait till next year because im in the unfortunate position of just graduating and being on my own and having no freakin money and no more parents to buy me everything,lol..So i wont have money till next summer anyways!

 

You guys think there is any chance they will punch the engine CC's up from 439 for next year since the MX rule change?????

I would wait, they may increase the engine size back up to 450, they may change the gearing, they may change alot of things.

I am in no hurry, I have a couple of banshees to hold me over, however if I was just in the market for a quad and had nothing to ride I would probably jump all over buying one.

I am with the other guy who said he is concerned with the trans. That is my main concern having been a 2001 raptor owner.

I would wait another year and wait till yamaha works out al the problems and kinks, if you rememeber the 01 raptors had tranny problems but the next year they were perfect. I would wait till next year i i were you.

Im thinking they will put it to 450 cc's next year because yamaha said they made it to fit the pro class displacement and when they came out with pro production(and the 450 cc limit) it was too late for them to change it..It should be hard to change anyway,the dirtbike is a 450 right now..

 

i was also thinking it would be cool(but i doubt it wil happen)If they made full race versions like connondale did..Like have one with just kickstart and some other weight saving things and maybe some gtyr parts and other trick stuff for like 7999$

 

how long will it take for most of the problems, flaws, etc. to show up?
