every vehicle is going to have durability issues......the ideal truck would be a ford body, dodge diesel, and a chevy tranny.......

The Cummins is the best, but the rest of the truck falls apart around it. The Powerstroke is next, and the truck can handle it. The Duramax is maxed out from the factory and I know personally that the GM HD trucks can't even handle a snowplow without replacing every component in the front end from balljoints to the entire power steering system every year.
The duramax is maxed out ?? LOL , Tell that to the guy with the 4x4 GMC that I seen in the 4x4 off road magazine that is putting 800 ft lbs of torque to the wheels. So much torque in fact he had to modifiy the torque converter because the torque tore the mounting nuts right off. There was also another one with edge jice that was a two wheel drive and was running with the 5.0 mustangs at the track. Haven't heard of a head cracking from making power unless someone did something wrong. As far as front end parts wearing out I haven't seen that on a GM truck, But I have on Dodges. You say you know personally that the GM falls apart, Is hearsay from other people or have you actually owned enough HD GM's since 01 to make an accurate analysis ?? I am by no means saying one is better than the other, But people really should have actual facts before making blanket statements about one truck or another.

The best two acronyms I've heard for Ford are

FORD - Found On Reservation Dump (No offence to any native americans meant on that .. I actually got that from Williams and Ree, a comedy duo .. Ree is a Sioux indian .. or partial anyway ..)

FORD - F'in Old Rebuilt Dodge !!!

but here's one for the GM haters that I haven't seen posted here yet .. GMC - Got Mechanic Coming !! That's a hoot!!

I'll take a toyota any day!! My mazda is pretty good .. just out dated (1990) and the new mazdas are just fords with a nicer name ..

I do like the styling of the ford though .. hafta say it's a very attractive truck .. moreso than the chevs at any rate .. can't touch the looks of the dodge tho .. and here's another one DODGE - Dem Old Dudes Go Everywhere!!

Being a Chevy man this hurts to say, But I did hear this from someone years ago.

C= cheap
H= heap
E= every
V= valve
R= rattles
O= or
L= leaks
E= every
T= time

Check out www.thedieselpage.com and tell me what you think about the Duramax then. That motor could easily put over 400 hp or better. There doing a custom build up of a 89 2WD Chevy stepside 1500 pickup with a Duramax thats making 400 HP. I read in Chevy High Performance a guy did the tranny exhaust and power programmer that he designed and his truck ran low 12s. I belive thats the one were he shered off the torque converter bolts. I may own Jap vehicals but if I could afford one I would buy a Chevy or GMC with the Duramax in a second.

If anyone does check that website out, look at the artical about the 6.5 diesel, the motor everyone badmouthed for 25 years. They have a kit that will prolong the life out it plus make 300 HP, thats out of a 6.5 .They said it could out pull and is faster than a 99 model year Cummins and Powerstroke. After reading the artical it seems Detroit Diesel did'nt design that motor too well from the factory.

Did I miss something? When did Ford start using GM's tranny in their Superdutys?

It's a Torqueshift. I have yet to understand why everyone is calling them Allisons???? I even know salesman for Ford that do it. I guess it's the same reason some people find it necassary to call a Cummins a "Cummings".....LOL.
