Default Coughing Raptor

I have a 2001 Raptor that coughs when im about mid range going thru the gears. I have a full yosh pipe on it and a K&N filter. Motor is stock. I used 150/155 jets. Snorkel is removed and i drilled 5- 1" holes in the airbox lid. Question is should use a hotter plug (if so do you have a p/n) or just take the lid off. The places i ride is very dusty.

sorry for sounding like a jackass, but do you guys mean to just remove the airbox lid completely and leave it off? i have a 93 trx300 that is still bone stock, and now with the new raptor i really have no idea about the mods. so just take the lid off huh? sounds like i may need to rejet it though? should i just wait till i buy a kit with header, pipe, k&n, and jet kit? then do it all at once?

no you can not just take the lid off, that filter is made to run with the lid on...you need to get a pro design filter to stay on...

If you want to run "lid off" with a stock air box raptor you need to cut the top of the air box away in a fashion where it still retains the filter holder and area for the clips

Probabley could remove most of the lid, just cut twords the back of the filter, near the rear of the bike, the part that keeps them on is in the front of the sirbox,i think you could cut all of it off and leave just the front of it..

I would get a prodesign kit, then you will have your lid if you ever need it.
