I have recently bought a 1986 Yamaha Moto 4 200 and am trying to fix it up for my kids. The thing starts great but as soon as you put it in to gear it jumps forward and stalls. Does anyone have any ideas what I can try? I am thinking maybe the clutch but am not sure how to adjust it. Any help would be great. Thanks

Does it idle alright? If so, the clutches are probably bad and need to be replaced. I have a friend who has the same bike and she had problems with that. Turned out she just had the idle set too high. Lowered the idle and it went in to gear fine.

Bringing back memories for me, this was my first ever quad.
If the thing has been sitting a long long time the clutch may need to be taken apart and cleaned it may have oil gunk on it keeping it from freeing up, in the least it needs adjusted. There is an adjustment on the motor but I cant direct you on how it should be set. I would look on ebay for a manual or chilton manual about adjusting the clutch.
