bbertram,
if we lived in a modern day utopia where all issues could be settled peacefully and there were no threats to your freedom, I would whole heartedly agree with you. Unfortunately we do not live in that perfect world that is free from violence. History has proven time and time again that those who do not protect themselves fall prey to aggressors. And those aggressors are still around today. The only thing that has changed in the last 400 years is our technology: our humanity, or lack thereof has not.

And to others a word of caution: do not let this debate spawn feelings of hate towards one another. The USA and Canada are like two competitve brothers in that we may have our spats, but if someone screws with our brother look out because you can't screw with one without tangling with the other!

bbertram,

I always enjoy your intelligent comments, many times disagree, just like in this case.

Imagine ....from John Lennon....interesting song, isn't it.

I believe ,that in the future all guns are going to be destroyed, all boundries will be gone, all nations heritage will be forgotten ,....... human race will be control by one dictatorship like government consisting of the richest people of the globe./it is kind of happening right now/....the race reproduction will be also cotrolled by the government as well as daily life./patriot act is a solid foundation, will be mastered in the future/.
Slow process ,but inavitable, promoted by liberal media with people like you behind the scenes.Eventually most of the population will be brainwashed enough to accept being taken over, just like many people in the US support all those anti terrorists laws, which are actually pointed against us.WE are losing our friedom and applaud our gov. at the same time. No terrorist action after 9/11....and this country could easily be a terrorist heaven. A half a block from my house starts a private air community, any and every airplane obtainable any given time, 25 miles from Chicago downtown. Where are those terrorists, thanks GOD the thread is not obviously so hot.

I do believe it is a good idea to have a gun for many reasons. First of all it is YOUR choice not the governments one, second, it is a crime preventer/statistics and logic/,third the criminals will always have it,so the ideal world doesn't apply.
It is well known fact, that all totalitarian regimes/ communist countries in Europe for instance/ banned all guns immediatelly after takin' over. There's many more reasons why I, and many citizens in this country like the guns. For me the most important of all as I said, is having the CHOICE. THAT'S a Freedom I have and YOU in Canada don't.
Just like a freedom of choice in medical field. Socialistic medicine doesn't work and never will. That's why so many Canadians are seeking a medical help in the US.

I have one big experience you don't. I lived long time under communist rule. I enjoy and love freedom we have, and many take for granted,in the best country in the world. I love this country, and for many years I am a proud us citizen. I don't approve my government policies all the time , but nothing is perfect. This is the best coubtry in the world, where you can be whatever you wanna be. I am living proof.

Sorry for such a long post.

Joe

That future comment I made in my previous post was just to prove a point. I added it in after I re-read my post a few times. Maybe I shouldn't have added it in.

Anyways, its almost the weekend and its almost time to ride, shoot guns or do whatever you want. WOOOOT.

I'm just an Albertan Country boy at heart, but I have learned a few things about Canada and the US in my short 22 years on gods green earth. here they are but first:

Ok seeing as how this discussion is WAYoff topic i thought i would try and find a few SIMILARITIES between Canadians and the U.S. and put in my two cents.

Here goes.

1. Canadians and Americans both love ATV's the sales will show it

2. I would love to sit down at the next winter olympics and see the Canadian team the U.S. team in the finals. Not because i love hockey, but because of the fact that both countries love BEER!! (you take you miller and i'll take my kokanee, Canadian, or Labatt!) amd we'llwatch a game together!

3. Both the Canadian and the U.S. countries have Helped a european country (hmmm... ryhmes with the word France) with their recurring problem of foreign invaders.

4. I would love to go to the states and meet some people who love quadding and they would show me around on some of their beautiful ATV trails. Then I would love to invite them on my way back to Canada and show them some of our beautiful ATV trails. The similarity? We both love beautiful country to ride in. We should try to keep these trails open for our use and not be bickering about the past!

5. The US loves our military snipers, and we love the US because they could bail us out of any major invasion of our country because we sure as hell couldnt bail ourselves out of it! thanks Uncle Sam!
