01 Raptor Tranny

Are the gear ratios in the 02 tranny the same as the 01 tranny. I love the second gear in my 01 tranny because it is so tall and can really let the bike wind out but i have heard horror stories about the reliability issues. Thanks in advance for any replys.

Ya, 02 ratios are different, but if your 01 hasen't gone out by now you should be ok. I think I have posted this 3 times this week, but I will say it again just incase it's true.
Don'et start the 01 in gear and never shift from reverse to first and take off without comming to a complete stop before you shift. Those were 2 possible reasons the 01 trany went out. I have never heard someone actually come out and say "yes, that's what did it", but why take a chance.

White660, How are you running your air box (no snorkle, tabs cut out, lid off ??)
I'm running no snorkle with the tabs still in and the lid on of course with stock jetting. It runs good but I know I can get more out of it if I rejet. Just curious with your jetting how your air box is. Thanks.

Starky I've been running mine w/o the snorkel, and the tabs cut out of my airbox lid with no problems(stock jetting) I've been contemplating going topless......(scary thought w/o explaination! ) on the airbox , but don't think it will really make enough of a difference to justify having to toy around with the jetting. Besides I like the thought that I won't have to worry about readjusting the jetting if I need to run the box lid at a muddy/wet race. Just my .02 What do you guys think does removing the box lid really make a noticable difference?

Hey Starky thanks for the reply and i'm running with the airbox but i took the lid off completly. A local shop around here (Fundy Power Sports) has a dyno so he did my jetting. With a TPI valve he installed in the lid it gained 2hp, then he removed the lid completely and gained another 3hp. It gets pretty wet around where i live so im just very careful when i drive it without the lid.

That's good information. I tried running with no air box lid and stock jetting and it really ran like crap. I was going to try 150/155 jets and see how that worked. I suppose you installed the whole K & N kit. How are your needles set up?

Have you had tranny problems yet?
Because I know a few people with 01 raptors around here and none of them have had tranny problems even after lots of miles and abuse they still run good.
I don't know if it is just the american models or what.
