does anyone have an idea of whats happening to my quad? my raptor goes out of gear on 4th only by itself and on again. when i shift to 4thg it goes for alil bit then revs like a mother and then goes back in to gear... is it a clutch adjustment problem or can it be the trany?

 

What year Raptor do you have? Sounds to me like you have some dogs that are getting worn out. The '01s were reported to have a lot of problems in the trannys, and could be replaced with the '02 gears or Sam Coe gears, I think. If I were you I would look into that, because a tranny that blows while going at a good clip will damage more than you barganed for.

 

its an almost brand new 04 raptor i got it a month ago or alil bit more.

 

Take it back to the dealer and tell them what's going on with it, it's still under coverage.

Mine has done the same thing.......it did it twice within the first month I had it.......I took it to the dealer and they said they have never heard of anything like that ...........so I took it home an dit never did it again?

Unless you have a cool dealer, I would take the exhaust off and get the machine back stock. The dealer could say the gears were not designed for the added power the exhaust gives. Keep us posted.

My '02 does that quite a bit when drag racing. I slam from 3rd to 4th and it goes for a split second then just revs up to the limiter. It is kind of like it pops out of gear, I have to let off the gas and click the shifter again to get it to lock in 4th. I didn't know there was any "inbetween" for the gears (except neutral beween 1st and 2nd). The only thing I can think is that my cluch gets hot and slips. I am replacing my clutch with a GYT-R kit and hopefully that will take care of the problem. Good luck!

If you are having to "shift" it back into gear I seriously doubt it is a clutch problem. If it is I couldn't see how.
