Default What's the deal with Rotax engines?

One of my riding buddies is about to buy a Baja X. As the main mechanic in our group, my first concern is about the Rotax engine. I have heard different stories and mainly I want to know what the difference is between the Rotax engine and the usual four-strokes I am used to dealing with. I have extensive experience with bikes such as the Raptor, 400ex, warrior, z400, and several others. I just want to know if the Baja is going to give me any unusual hassles when it comes time to do some motor mods.

Thanks.

I think it is just the brand, but may be wrong. I don't see nearly as many broken down DS's as I do Raptors, though. They seem to be built like tanks.

Rotax engines are the best. Always known for spectacular power and reliability. Notice u never hear any thing bad about the bomb motors?

the rotax is major easy to work on, you will start to hate working on the others, well actually you may never have to work on it unless you mod it.

a rotax engine isnt as detuned as all the rest. If u dont already know bomb. is owned by ski-doo and its the same engines they use in their sleds. Rotax engines are the nicest engines for quads out but sadily not in good quads

All that's fine and all but my real question is whether there are any major differences in the mechanics of the engine. Especially the topend.

Nope, it's just a normal DOHC design, nothing special.
