Default HID (Xenon) system in 1990 Blaster?

I’m trying to hook up an HID system in my 1990 Blaster but it isn’t igniting. I know the HID system works because I tested it on my car battery. Is it because Blasters don’t put out enough power to ignite HID bulbs? Do I need a new stator? My stock halogen headlight works fine on high & low. HIDs require less power than halogens so it doesn't make sense. Any ideas? Thanks!

I believe the output to the lights is AC, directly from the stator and unregulated. I dont think it will work without a DC regulator and battery.

Do you think it's possible? Can I add a regulator and a small motorcycle battery? Will the stator keep the battery charged?

It may possibly keep it charged, but I bet it will be close and you wont be able to run the lights the whole time only when necc.

So the Blasters's voltage is 12 volt AC right? What if I just got a 12 volt AC to 12 volt DC inverter? If they exist that is.

Let me know if you get that to work..cause I have been wanting to see if I can put some HID's on my Banshee.

I can't seem to find the right inverter. Too bad the bike uses AC voltage. It would be so much easier if it was DC.

You can get an inverter at radio shack. its a little square black thing with 4 leads. 2 of them will be AC input, and 2 will be DC output. I am not sure how well it will work and what kinda power you will get out of it though.

Both the Blaster and the Banshee can run HID's, here are some pictures of HID on the Banshee:

http://www.trailtech.net/hid.htm

Here is what you need to do:

Open the stator and lift the ground wire off. Solder an extension wire to the ground wire you lifted. Run the extension wire up to bar (leaves you enough wire to work with).

While you are in the stator here are the wires you will see:

One wire off the large windings to the AC lights - the other end of this wire is connected to the ground under one of the stator attach screws
Two wires off from the ignition coil - this will be small wirew coils and fewer of them - these two wires go to the CDI - leave them alone.
Two wire off from the ignition sensor module - this sensor looks at the timing mark on the outside of the flywheel - leave them alone.

Now you have two lighting wires off the stator. Run these two wires into the yellow wires on the regulator/rectifier (no polarity requirements). The regulator/rectifier has a red and black wire output - this is youir 12 volts DC. Connect a small battery to the red and black wires to keep the 12 volts DC output smooth. Hook the HID's to your battery and you have awesome light!

I left out a few details like switch and fuse which are not necessary but a good idea. trail tech can hook you up with the parts and some install pictures.

Wow. Thanks for the info. So basically I need to hook up these 2 wires off the stator so I can add a regulator/rectifier which charges the battery that powers my HIDs?
