How many gears do you pull through 300'? Is 2 quicker than 3.....or do you stay with 2 because it's more consistant since it's 1 less shift?

In the sand I start of in second and it bogs (or it used to, don't know about with the nitrous ) and I double clutch then shift to third and fourth, don't use fifth. On dirt it is the same. I have always heard it is best to cross the line in one gear lower than your top gear. Some times in the sand it would work better if I launched in first and short shifted really fast to second and then the same as before. Its kinda nice, cause with the tach I can see which launch and shift RPM works the best.

In automobile racing....it's common too gear your machine too hit peak power in your 1/1 gear the second you cross the finish line. That would be 4th gear for the Raptor.....the theory is you are always near your peak power when using more gears.....meaning less dropoff when shifted.....which should equate too a quicker ET. Anyone else have comments?

how do y'all launch?
I have a hard time keeping the front end down no matter what gear i start in?

I got it to stay down twice when I started in 1st
I short shifted it really quick and did the same to 2nd and hammered onthird.......and it road a wheelie on out and when I hit 4th it slammed back down?

is this what I need to be doin?

3rd and 4th gear on a Rappy? Dayum, that's like a fast Shee. I can barely pull 2nd (with no nitrous and no stage one hot cam, which I am acquiring soon) That's alot of power!

i can only comment on what i do in an approximate 300 foot uphill sand drag but it works well for me.i have 20-10-8 (10 paddle haulers) with 12-40 gearing and i start out in first and i hit second right away and i get into third probably halfway up the hill and it continues to build speed in third at the top of the hill.with the 10 paddle haulers and my gearing i can usually beat all but the fastest quads off the line and halfway up the hill but the super fast banshees get me the last 100 feet or so.i know a lot of people will say that i should start in second but where i race the take off is very short and you are climbing a pretty steep incline right away so first works better at least in that situation.i have found that a good way to improve your performance is to practice getting through the gears as quickly as possible with no hesistation in between gears so that you do not lose momentum.i just race for fun on the dunes where i ride but i can assure you that some of our local riders are very fast and they take their sand drag racing seriously.as i have said before if you want some serious competition just pick any busy holiday weekend and come on out here and you will find a lot of fast four and two strokes ready to give you a good run.i myself realize that i am not the fastest although there are only a few four strokes that give me trouble(sandman 430 on his ds)but i will race anyone as long as i have my goggles on to protect me from the sand i might be eating.sorry if the reply is too long but i sometimes find it hard to get my point across in just a few lines.

I always have and always will take off in 2nd. Launching in first there is a chance of hitting neutral when going into second, unless you let off the gas, which I dont like to do
When I cross the 300' mark I am about halfway into 4th gear.

raptorrcr-if i were starting off on a flat surface i too would start off in second but with the base of the hill where i race having a very short run it works better to take off in first for me.

flat 300' dirt
I start 2nd with the throttle at the stops. I can cross in either low RPM 4th or wound out to the max in 3rd.
It seems like if I start in 1st it slows me down and sometimes it want to lift the front end up when I shift to 2nd.
