01 Raptor Project
well my 01 has held up rather nice...but it's time to fix up this worn out pig and make her strong and sexy again.
Problem:
1. Raptor frame& subframe cracked and bent from 3 years of year round punishment. Ice, snow, mud, rocks, jumps, tracks, sandpits etc. i'd never imagine the tranny would out live the chasis...but here we are.
2. Elka's are in need of rebuild...crush bushing from bad landings and rubber seals dried and split from year round use. in need of recharge as well. with the switch from +3 to +2 they will need to be re valved as well
anyways, i'm starting a rebuild project. for now it just includes the chasis/suspension and some other misc. areas. i'm sure i'll uncover numerous surprises down the line. The Raptor is still completely ridable...so i plan on continuing to ride until i decide to swap everything over this winter. If my Tranny goes...then you folks will get an inside look of a complete rebuild.
until then... check this post out now and then on my progress and feel free to jump in with ideas and direction or questions.
Ive just posted pics of the new frame which will be sent to K&K to be powder coated Black. $480 thru dealer. i thought about getting it gusseted...but its like an additional $250 plus you'll need to have it painted. no thanks...you got to draw the line somewhere so you can go overboard elsewear.
speaking of going overboard...My Pingry Aluminum airbox (check pics) and a Lone star Racing sub-frame (pics) just arrived from your friend and mine...Mr UPS. Mr. UPS forgot our little agreement though and delivered the packages to the front door instead of to the shed like we asked /bribed him to do. and as we suspected, Mrs Kuz is all over me like ugly on an Ape. Thanks Mr. UPS. if you deliver the A-Arms and Tag bumper to the front Tommorow...project Raptor will be over...be careful...buddy

Yup...with alotta help from friends. the pics are waiting to be approved by a moderator
i already noticed a potential problem. the LSR subframe is missing the mount/bracket that the peg mounts for the airbox go into. not sure if this is a mistake or if it was done on purpose. i'll contact LSR tommorow and find out.
