Default Unbearable heat from YFZ header pipe

I don't know if I ride with my knees too close to the bike or not, but I have a hard time riding for any length of time on my YFZ because the header gets so hot. When I say hot I am not exagerating in fact its probably an understatement. I have read that this is common with the YFZ... Has anyone else noticed this and found a way to deal with it or solve it? Or do ya just gotta keep your right leg stuck out the whole time (Riding in shorts is not... I repeat NOT a good idea on the YFZ )

You should ride my DS without the heat shield...

Also you should look at my leg after I touched the side of my knee against the headers while running at WOT for a little while...

gary660R its brand new Ive only had it out a total of about 2 hours.

I do have riding boots but I haven't ridden it with them on yet as I haven't done any of what I would call "serious" riding yet. (I do wear helmet, goggles and gloves always though... I learned the hard way about just going out for a easy stroll without a helmet a while back)

Just as I expected....the engine is still breaking in and running hotter than normal. Don't get excited yet....the engine should run cooler with a good days riding on it. Change the oil soon....break in debree are floating around inside you engine. Can't change oil enough in a brand new engine. Adjust valves before recommended specs too.

Wear your riding boots. Take it from someone who went on a "five minute ride" and instead of comming home with a couple bruises went to the ER in an ambulance with broken bones that could have been prevented if I had "worn my boots".

Would heat tape work or would that cause other problems.

Roger that. My wife complained about the same thing until we got her some boots. As for me, I always wear boots and helmet and goggles and gloves. I probably don't be long on an atv do I?

Unbearable? C'mon - you can do it!

Dude do the cam mod, take baffle out, rejet, and take airbox lid off this made alot of the dreaded heat go away. This quad comes very lean from factory this will make any ride run hot. Second takeing the baffle out made the biggest differance becuase it lets those hot gasses escape faster. Not to mention these mods will give you a new and faster ride

I DONT RIDE FAST I JUST FLY LOW!
