Default A riding story

Found a new trail yesterday...awesome trails. Showed up @ 8am and rode until 4pm... sorta. Half way through the day, i start noticing problems going uphill. it felt and sounded like the tranny was slipping. as soon as i got on a straight away it would go away. well i immediately start back.

we decide to pull over and check things out. i describe the problem to my buddy (who's riding my warrior). we both agree it's probably the 01 tranny going...i'm like "cool, it's about time. Now i can get my 686 kit" then light dawns on Marblehead. and this is what he tells me.

you know...when we were riding yesterday (on a SKi-Hill mind you) i noticed both your rear wheels were wobbling like crazy".

i was like.."WTF. this was yesterday on the side of a friggin mountain and you did'nt feel the need to mention it? or today? before we headed out into the middle of nowhere!?"

i forgot

Okay.Okay. lets just take a look. so i grab the rear tire and sure as S. it wobbles like a drunk drinking listerine. both of em. Grrrr! Hub nut still tight. clip still in. Wtf?

alright lets just get the hell outa here. so we start back and 5min into it we disagree on which way to go. Amazingly enough i let Einstein spin my head around and we take his route. Wrong. we end up at the base of this hill climb up a tight trail...riddled with large rocks and several mud pits. thats right, uphill Mud-pits?! have you ever heard of such a thing?

Of course, i get half way up this thing. and thats it. no-more. the axle is just spinning and nothing gets to the tires. Perfect. "bring it on God!" you know at this point the the planets are literally lining up against you.

I'm like "Dude theres no-way we went through this! we need to go back. throw me the tow strap."

Long pause...i left it back at the truck. i could'nt mount my water bottles to the bumper with it there.

"Of course you did...pass me the water bottle... atleast we won't dehydrate!"

Uhm...it fell off 4 hrs ago.

there was 45 mins of wrestling the quad off the hill mixed with brief moments of terets outbursts. then music to my ears. a 4x4 comes done the killer hill towing a Z400 with a broken front sprocket (owner thought he might have tightened his chain to tight)

he throws us an extra strap and i hook up to the warrior. this guys says. you need to keep up i'm in a rush to get outa here. i'm like..me too don't worry we can hang.

we'll..the strap he gave us was about 5ft long and he did about 30-40mph the whole way. Through mud pits and two quarries. between the mud being thrown in my face and the crushed rocks bouncing off me from the warrior. i was fit to be tied by the time we got back.

Thank god there was cold beer back at the truck waiting for us on ice. turns out the splines on the LSR hubs i have, were cored out by the LSR axle. absolutely nothing left... the wheels just free spin. Hows that for tourqe? i've never heard or had this happen before. anyone else? Closer inspection reveals the hub splines were made of aluminum. i would of thought they would have pressed a steel spline insert in the hub.

anyways thanks for listening...had to vent.

as far as my friend...his name is Richard. i will now refer to him as Dick. until the day we bury him. then i will **** on his grave. lol

haha.........sounds about like my luck..........LoL.......My shiz is usually tha one that breaks down.....and it is usually becuase of someone else riding it.........But I normally don't say anything unless it is something big........

Now it is my turn to vent........
this has been the Month from he!!......
first......8/16....I got a ticket for riding my 4wheeler on the hwy........then I got a ticket for my windows being .02%on the way to rabbit park to go................
Saturday night I left my couins house and side swipped a pole that I parked next to...(I think my windows are too dark.......I didn't even see it........)
and Today I called the Judge in Henderson to ask if there was anything that I can do about those tickets.........and he tells me, "No sir........that isn't one ticket.......that is two.........one is for the side glasses being .02% and the other is for the windshield strip being too low....."
what kind of shiZ is that?

Am I just extremely unlucky or what?
and to top it all off........I start back to school today.....taking 18hours......consisting of Statistics, Accounting, Economics, Biology, Zoology, and some other class........hell I can't even remember what it was.......
I am taking donations for the "Fix the side of Josh's truck, Pay Josh's truck notes, Pay Josh's tickets, Pay Josh's College expenses" Foundation.......LoL

I cant keep my LSR axle tight for **** either. Well, I can after a few tries but as soon as I mess with it again - loose.

I have had rides like that too, went out with a large group, 8am, came back for lunch around 2pm and decided to head off again figuring we would be back by 7pm or so. We went one place, went another, and another before starting to head back around 7:15. having no idea where we were I asked how long to get back.. "hmm, about 2 hours".. Figures since I dont have my headlights on! My new PRM swingarm skid had since fallen off and it was getting dark rapidly. My front wheel bearings went bad and I had to grab the brakes in every turn to keep the left wheel from trying to come off the spindle.

I followed as close as I could to the guy in front of me trying to take his line in the hopes he doesnt do anything crazy since I couldnt see. The group was about 20 people so I tried to stay somewhere near midpack using the guys tailight infront of me and the riders headlights that were behind me. All of a sudden everything went dark except for the taillight I was following, they split the pack in half right behind me and went a seperate route. Now I didnt have enough light to even follow the guy in front of me and had to slow to a stop, the guy in front of me couldnt see if I was back there or not so he kept going (not knowing where he was either)

I keep having to shut off and listen for the other riders and tried to make a bee line down trails to get where they were, all in all I made it back to the trucks just seconds after they arrived, but I was lost for damn near 20 minutes in pitch black woods, so I guess they got a little lost too.

KUZ- If I were you, I would have made "DICK" ride on your Raptor, while you pulled him with your Warrior, then would have given him a good mud and rock bath the whole way back to the truck!!!LOL!!!

LOL DIablo... Thatis exactly what I was getting ready to post...

Let your speed die down some going into a mud hole, and of course you would have to throtle up pretty hard to gain momentum agin! LOL

Scary: no problem...let it vent dudes. its all about sharing. good or bad. if i were you man...i'd call Papa Doc and get him to waive a dead chicken over you...get rid of that bad mojo.

Warrior007: I called LSR because the stock hubs kept coming loose on their Axcaliber axle. they said i needed their Hubs (of course). this would eliminate my problem. so i did. and now you know the end result. i still had to tighten the LSR hubs...religuosly. I can't imagine if this all went down in the dark. i would've smacked the taste right out of his mouth. friend or not. it came close.

Diablo: believe me i thought about it. My Rators got +3 a-arms. so i had to make a decision. be towed and risk the mud bath or risk him banging up my pride and joy in the tight stuff.

Keep the stories coming guys...misery loves company.

I do remeber one particular ride that my cousin and I were on (long time ago). He was riding a Mojave and I was on a warrior. Long story short.. The ride ended with his muffler strapped onto my bumber, and him pulling me home... Talking about a sorry sight comming up the road!!!

I got water in my carbs from going through a mud hole about ow lets say a foot more than gas tank high!!! LOL

I think I still have some hearing loss from being towed about 5 miles behind a mojave with no muffler wounding wide open in 3rd gear! I couldn't feel the mud or rocks hit me because I had a nice casing of mud that was already dried... ocassionally I would have a rock that would knock a chunck of mud off of me!

I'm sorry to hear about the bad luck you guys have been having! Kuz, I can't beleive your friend just "forgot".

BiG Scary, good luck with all those classes! I am stuffed with 12 credit hours this fall, a couple honors classes. And I'm not sure I'll be able to keep up with that! How many hours a week you work?

Luckily I cannot remember any time that I have had to be towed back. I have had to do some towing before, but the good thing is when you're towing the person on the quad they own that broke down, you can pay them back by showering them in mud. It's like, you ruined my trip so I'm going to get you all muddy. Then you get back to the staging area and realize that its your truck you're riding in. So then your truck gets all f'ed up on the inside. But oh well thats just part of riding.

And last thing, is LSR Lone Star Racing? Or you talking about a dif company?

yeah lonestar

I had them tight for the longest time, I had to take my axle out to drill out a broken adjuster bolt and ever since it wants to loosen up. I will get it though. I had the same problem back when I did the axle bearings.

Are you using the spacers on the inside or outside?
