Default Raptor Octane?

Scotts88 - Have you ever torn down an engine that was running low octane and check the valves for carbon? Then place it back together and run high octane fuel in it for 2 weeks then tear it down again and see the difference? I have, I did this to my own datsun pickup years ago cuz my head gasket was seeping. Then someone told me to run higher octane because of the cleaner detergents. This was amazingly true. So I really dont run High octane in my truck all the time but every 3rd fill up is the good stuff just to burn off the old. Now my quads, thats all I put in them is the good stuff.

I've torn plenty of motors down. I've owned a couple stangs and run just what i say, the lowest octane i can without pinging. I've never had a problem with carbon deposits and such and never seen a difference that the fuel has made, but maybe i've jsut had better luck. ALot also has to do with regular maintence on the motor and such.

ANyways..point being, run what you like..

It could have been, I bought that truck used and did all the work myself. Also, I worked for my brother who owns an automotive shop for years and have seen lots of carbon build up and gunky engines. 99% of them said they used the cheapest gas they can get and as for the gunky motors..... I was all ways right when I asked them if they use Penzoil.

I've heard tht running 93 octane could make your engine run hotter.

I can't verify that. I usually run high octane, but truthfully have no problmes running either.

If it's in the can, that's what I use.
