Default does anyone know how to polish aluminum?

Hey guys,

I was wondering if anyone knew how to polish their side cases, etc. to get them to shine like chrome. I heard that you need lots of patience and elbow grease. but really think the effort would pay off in the end. Someone here must have done this before and can steer me in the right direction. thanks.

I have a couple of buddies that use a paint stripper then a buffing wheel. I don't think it's worth the time because after two rides it needs repolished. its not as easy as I made it sound its really a pain in ***.

i have a raptor that i have polished part of the cases on each side. it was fairly easy. just sand paint off with very fine grit paper. you can use Mothers polishig compound and polish it by hand. i use a numatic grinder with a buffing wheel.also you can make your own polishing compound.
get a stick of white polishing rouge;use a cheese grater to grade it as fine as you can then mix it with a small amount white Coleman fuel continue to mix in fuel untill it is a paste. this works great on rims, with very little elbow grease. make sure you wash the grater before you make the notchos! This guys exactly right. It depends on how much time you want to work on your bike between rides wheather or not its worth it. It takes me 2 good days to prep my Rap between rides. To me its worth it.

Like I always say, If chrome makes you faster, I must be Tim Farr.

It must not make you faster.

Hey there,
Just do a search, under "title AND body" for "polishing aluminum". You'll find all kinds of stuff.

seems like it would really scratch up the finish, with mud. i guess as long as you sprayed it off and didn't try and remove it with your hand.
