Default Banshee tech help...

A friend of mine bought a 2000 Banshee at an auction for $1500 with a bent frame, for $2k I could bring it home. It appears as though it was taken care of until it's tragic end and has some T5s and a Lone Star swingarm on it. I was thinking that I could get a LSR or Laeger frame for it and make it into a deseret stompin bike! I know this is kind of a spendy project but I think I would like to have a Banshee to blast around on. The same friend is a "Banshee guy", he has 2 and they both are drag ported with CPIs. I have ridden these bikes and to be honest it's not what I am looking for, is there a good, powerful, and reliable combination for a banshee that has a smooth transition "onto the pipe"? I ride in the sand and I'm not wanting a drag bike, I can't see being able to jump and shoot trails with a peaky port job. So let me hear your best setup that is easy to ride and not a light switch.. If I can get something that will work I may bring it home tomorrow..

My setup is one of the smoothest I've ever experienced on a shee (see sig.). An mx port from patriot racing will give you an even broader powerband. I would suggest the toomey t5 pipes or cpi in-frames for sand riding, because your always in the upper bounds of the rpm's. Those are both high-rev pipes that kick in hard but b/c of the sand they won't jerk you around like dirt.

I was kinda thinking more like a +5-6mm stroke and maybe some kind of power valve type jugs around 400cc with mild porting. Something that isn't quite as explosive as a drag motor.

I've seen 350's w/ a good port job outrun the big-bore 'shees all day long. Get the 404 kit and a good port job and you'll have a STRONG motor thats still extremly "rideable". The guy who started www.thebansheezone.com has a 404 kit w/ some porting if you want to check it out. The 370 long rods do not have 2hp increase over stock but the long rod increases reliability b/c the lower angle and longer stroke of the crank.

Mike

Edit: Oh ya, the 400pv kits aint all there cracked up to be.

I think your right on track with the stroker. I have a mild +7 mm stroker (well it was mild last year LOL) and its an absolute KITTY in the dunes. Let em explain!. You can sit in 3rd gear, let it lug down at the bottom of the bowl, give it some gas and itll power/rev right up. No chugging, no riding the clutch to get rpms.. I am usually in 3rd to forth the whole ride. I dont have to keep shifting gears, riding the clutch, feels kinda like a , gasp, 4 stroke! Then I go to the hill and win 85% of the races im in. Prolly around 70 hp. It has gobs of torque and gets better gas mileage than stock to boot. My next dune banshee will be a 4 mm stoker, only because its cheaper to do...

Good luck!
