01 Tranny Problem
Hey,
I was wondering if anyone that had a 2001 raptor that had a screwed up tranny to email me.. Please email me. I want to go after Yamaha for all the money that it takes to redo a tranny. Mine just went out the other day after 157 hours. How screwed up is that? So email me at jordan_n_jenni@mailcity.com If your interested in trying to go after Yamaha.

What were you doing when it went out? For the few of us who still have 01 tranys that are in one chunk.
I had a link in one of my last posts where Yamaha was recalling a bunch of 01 street bikes because of the same or similar problems the Raptor has. I don't know if anyone is persuing that or not.

If you got hurt, you can go after them. If not, you are out of luck. Two letters from your attorney will cost you more. A letter from you won't mean a thing. Hats off to you if you got hurt though. Yamaha is going to eat it big time when one of the 25,000+ 2001 owners eats it. Biggest reason is because Yamaha knows about the problems and modified the design. Even a bad attorney will be able to get a decent settlement.
This is directly off of Honda's website under the ATV homepage. Amazing what Honda is willing to recall. Some will say it is because it doesn't cost them much to retorque a bolt. Actually, the big reason is they don't want to get sued.
CPSC, Honda Announce Recall of All-Terrain Vehicles (ATVs)
PRODUCT: ATVs - American Honda Motor Co. Inc., of Torrance Calif., is voluntarily recalling about 6,000 2003 model year All-Terrain Vehicles (ATVs). The recalled ATVs are model number TRX650FA. They are red or olive green, and "Rincon" is written on the side cover with VIN numbers ranging from 478TE280*3A000041 to 478TE280*3A006105. The VIN numbers are located on the left-front frame tube. Honda motorcycle dealers nationwide sold these ATVs from July 2002 through October 2002 for approximately $7,000. They were manufactured in the USA.
PROBLEM: Some front and rear, upper and lower a-arms and shock absorbers may have been torqued incorrectly during assembly. If any of the suspension bolts loosen and fall out, the suspension could collapse and cause a loss of steering or vehicle control, posing the risk of serious injuries.
INCIDENTS/INJURIES: Honda has received one report of a bolt falling out and a front suspension collapsing on one of these vehicles. No injuries have been reported.
WHAT TO DO: Consumers should stop using these ATVs immediately and call their local Honda motorcycle dealers to schedule a free repair. Consumers should not attempt to torque these bolts themselves because this job requires shop equipment and special tools not generally available to consumers. To locate their local dealer or for more information, consumers should call American Honda at (800) 578-3543 between 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. PT Monday through Friday. You may also use the “Locate A Dealer” tool found on this Web site.
Registered owners of the vehicles have been notified directly by American Honda.

01 Tranny Problem
So is this tranny problem just a matter of time, and its GONNA go out eventually, or do we have guys on here who have not had it go out yet? Sounds like they last for quite a while before they go out? I'm guessing hopping up the motor(ie more horsepower) will only put even greater stress on the already weak design?

01 Tranny Problem
Mine went out after 1 yr just locked
and the only reason I didn't go over
the bars was the stock chain broke
as I was starting to go over the bars
they fixed it with 01 parts because
they didn't have the 02 's out yet
and that was 2 yr's ago this nov.
I got 6 months left on the warr. I
bought my yamaha guy told me if
it breaks within that time they will
fix agian with 02 gears but the damn
thing is holding up go figure it
will go right after the warr. is up
