I am planing on getting a new sport ATV within the next year and had a few questions on the 2000 Honda 400ex, and the 2000 Yamaha Warrior. Which is faster, better at jumps, and which is more reliable. I have plenty of experience using ATV's (my current is a 99 Honda Recon) and using a manual clutch (because of my dirtbike) so ease of use isn't a huge issue. BTW, my parents are paying so cost isn't a big issue.:-)

Being a yamaha man myself i hate to say it but the 400ex is a better machine than the wariror. I think everyone will tell you the same thing. the 400ex is a great machine that is reliable fast and well suspended. the warrior is really no comparison. it is reliable but it is not as fast or as well suspended. NOW IF YOU WANTA REAL MACHINE get a BANSHEE ; )

Jon-2000 blue and white banshee, renthals, razar rears, holeshot fronts, PC pipes and silencers, headlight covers, shock wears, alba air box lid, Pro flow kit.

If i wanted to be more trail oriented, did care about speed or jumping, the warrior is better.

But it you want to do trails, race around, jump, ect. the 400EX is great!

If you are leaning towards a four stroke, why not wait until the new 660 yamaha comes out. It looks like one fast freakin four wheeler. The expected cost will probably be around $7000, but if cost isnt an issue......

The reason i'm not going to wait for the new yamaha is because of 2 reasons
1. My parents won't go any higher in price than what the 400ex costs (that took alot of haggleing with to get them to pay that much)
2. I don't want something so insanely powerful that i will have a hard time trail riding and controling at high speeds. I want something to race my friends with, ride a little trail, show off on(my favorite thing to do...), and make the occasional trip to the local MX track for open practice.
Maybe when I have 8000 bucks sitting around (can't wait till then) I will look at pure race Quads

I have a 1999 Yamaha Warrior and I really enjoy it. My neighbors just got a 2000 400EX and I have to admit it is a pretty awesome machine if the right person is riding it. It jumps great, it is fast but kind of unstable at high speeds on gravels, and from what I have heard though they haven't been around long it is reliable. Me I choose a Warrior cause going fast is all there is to riding and plus the seat on my Warrior is way softer than the one on the EX and also my Warrior feels a lot more stable going at full speed on gravels or any terrain.

I had a 98 Warrior, which was the best Sport-Utility atv in my opinion. For me it was the do everything go anywhere type of atv with reverse. Changed the oil once in a two year period and the machine never missed a step. Mine was bullet-proof. The 400ex is an excellent machine. A friend of mine has one. The only thing worried me was that it flooded fairly easy. The bottom-line is that no matter which one your parents buy for you just have some fun....

Yep most people don't realize the EX's carburetor has an accelerator pump. Makes it easy to flood if the throttle is "pumped".
