I can't remember what second tops out on my lowly GSX-R 600, but first is good for 67 mph at its 13,500 rpm redline.
[Edited by adding this] Also, iirc, the Hayabusa tops out at "only" 192 mph or so now, thanks to some new voluntary max speed (like the German automakers' gentlemen's agreement for a max of 155 mph). At least, the first bikes could get up there, but when they tested it on that motorcycle show on Speedvision it went ~192 mph.

OMG,I just looked at the R1 on Yam's site.
Holy crap........I'm almost doubting it.
180hp?!?!
The Gixxer 1k makes about 165hp right?
Christ,I thought the busa made 175 or so?
That thing is an absolute ballistic missle if its got 180hp.
Its almost tough to fathom in a production bike weighing what it does.
On a diff note,I've always loved the FZ1.
Now I see they have the FZ6! :-O
I might have to get one now........omg.....

how did they come up with the name "crotch rocket"? i don't know about the rest of you, but i am not in the habit of placing rockets near my crotch.
but seriously, the hayabusa and the zx-12 are the reason there is a top speed governor on new bikes. it would only have been a matter of time before a stock bike hit 200 in factory trim.

Man, I wanted a CBR 600 from the time I was like 15 untill about 23. I had kinda forgotten about street bikes for the last couple years but now that I'm learning all this stuff about the new bikes I'm starting to want one again. BTW, anyone seen the new Buell? Forgive me for being out of touch with the info on newer bikes but I saw something about that buell that was pretty cool. They said they used the frame for oil storage/routing instead of how most bikes have an oil tank up high in the back. Supposedly this made the bike handle sweet, it was really easy to flip from side to side.
