Instead of getting the Raptor I almost got a street bike.
both me and my g/f were gonna get one.....
Was lookng at FZ1's and 600R's for myself and she wanted a Ninja 500R for herself.
But then we just decided to stick to off road.
plus, she lives in RI for now and its just all traffic.........
I don't trust OTHER people and I would kinda worry about her safety.
Once she moves here next spring.....hmmmm.........

Might be street bike time again.......

Modern sport bikes amaze me.
Just the amount of performance you can get for 8-10 grand is just mind boggling.

These bikes are fun, but deadly. My 01 CBR929 would do 110 mph redline second gear. I sold it about a year later. I won't ever buy another suicide cycle.

Besides my 929, I have ridden an R1, GSXR 1000, and ZX12-R. To me, the most impressive power-wise was the GSXR 1000. The R1 is a nice machine too. The 12-R wasn't my style. It is big and you know it, kinda like a DS. I'm sure the new CBR 1000 will be a great machine, but when it comes time for you to sell, nothing seems to sell as good as used GSXR's. They are generally the racers choice, particularly the 750s.

Also the factory horsepower ratings may not be realistic. Honda claimed about 150 hp from my 929 and the magazines tested it around 128-130. The GSXR 1000 was a tested 145 hp (in 2001). Any one of these machines are fast enough.

Good luck.

Daren

I rode a new GSXR1000...I simply cracked the throttle and upshifted till it ran out of gears...past the shop I went barely over idle, but over 90mph(the boss just laughed)the new customer was stoked to seen his new bike zip by also...these bikes are capable of 186.4mph(govt mandate)...the 1100's are faster....so lets re-count you can walk in to a shop and buy your ten year old kid a GSXR1000, but don't ask the dealer to sell him a 300ex...

yea sorry for all u guys that got a boner from thw 180hp from the new r-1 .. that will never happen more like 150 -160 max

that 180 was a wet dream about cranck hp probley

0ut of the top three bikes out there which are gsxr1000 , R-1 , and the CBR954
the gixxer is the fastest by far ( these are sport bike once u get to the zx12 and busa there to big for the twistys .

i hate to say it but i have seen it first hand . i have a 2002 cbr 954 with a few mods
my buddy has a 2003 r-1 few mods and me and him and side by side the hole way to about 170 . by that time one of us have backed off .

but my other friend has a 2002 gixxer 1000 few mods and he pulls on me and the R-1 third gear and up not by much but he does pull away .

but i have rode both all three bikes before i got my 954 and i love the power and handling of the 954 more then any other bike .

and on the gixxer if your wheeling when u comdown hard you will feel it in your nuts .. gixxer tanks are nut busters .

just my 02. on crotch rockets .
