L&A installed...wow

this is such an improvement, it even sounds better! the only hard part putting it together was the 110 pounds of torque that holds the fylwheel...we had to put like a 50 pound wrench on it to turn it, we had it in gear and i was standing on the break and the wheels were still turning....LOL

didnt touch the carbs, it just starts faster, doesnt make that annoying click after it stops, when it starts it doesnt sound like the engine is shredding itself up, alot stronger i even dropped it and it didnt even scratch

Gary... He's talking about the L&A Designs replacement one way starter clutch. Check it out on raptortranny.com. Mine works great too. No "ker chunk, ker chunk" noises anymore and the price is comparable to replacing the stock peices that break just as fast as the first ones did! Plus it's a little lighter so it gets the flywheel weight down.
A++ for a "Best Buy"!!

I have a few questions about the one way I hope you guys can help me with, because I am going to need to do this very soon.
I was just wondering can this be installed with just pulling the side cover off, or will you have to split the cases? Is it very difficult to install, and are there any special tools you need to do the job? Also, if the one way bearing goes out how do you know, and is there anything it will hurt? I guess what I want to know is should you change it over to the LA design one way before something bad happpens or can you just wait for the stock one to go bad before you repalce it?

Just take the side cover off. Special tools? An impact wrench would be nice, electric or air, 1/2" drive. You'll need a flywheel puller. If the old oneway goes out you'll know by the grinding/clunking sounds you here when you try and start it. The spring around the one way gives way and the rollers become loose. If you wait to long the gear the one way rides on will need to be replaced. The most difficult part would be getting the nut loose and pulling the rotor off. The air or electric impact will help with the nut.

45auto,
It's hard to see but does your dyno say 90hp? 686, fcr's, stage 2 cam? Wouldn't that be sweet.

I think 4eva is right, 10 ft lbs on the allen bolts that hold the one-way and the magnet and 110 to torque the crank nut. Make for SURE you get the crank nut tight enough, I didn't the first time and it was starting to work a little bit in the month or so that it was back together before I put the L&A in.
Should be a relatively easy job for most anyone. I think the only drawback to waiting until the original one way goes out is the metal shavings that end up in the oil. Fortunately I think most of them get stuck to the stator magnet and don't go much anywhere!
The only other suggestion is that if the gear that the one way rides on is torn up at all, get a new one! I'm not talking about the gear teeth themselves, but the surface that the one way rides on. Might as well replace it while you're there and I found a heck of a deal through Ripper Racing.

I think that if you added up the cost for new factory parts (one way, gear and gaskets) you'd be at the price that Ripper has the whole package for. Might as well upgrade!!!
