I just changed my oil. I did exactly what the service manual says, except I put in a little too much oil. I put in 1 1/2 qts., ran it for 30 seconds, then added a little less then 1 qt. more, and ran it again for about 3 minutes. So, I put a little less then 2 1/2 qts, but it reads a little over the FULL mark on the dipstick. I changed the filter also. This isn't gonna be real bad is it? Can I run it with a little too much?

 

I ran mine like that but after riding it and letting it set, I checked the dipstick and it was all foamed up!! I went ahead and drained it out to the normal setting and then checked it later in the day again and it was fine.

 

i tiny bit more wont hurt, but way to much is just as bad as to little

 

Its better to have a little less than full than a little more than full, like RaptorOwner said it foams up.

 

just curious, what causes it to foam and whatll happen if it foams?

 

The pumping of the oil, friction, and it if does too much foam(what happens to a bottle of pepsi when you shake it) it may go out your breather tube but I have not filled mine up that much.

 

except for making a mess, will it do any damage. Once due to some weird a$$ oil reading i probably had about a little less than half a quart too much. I took it to the track, and when i came home that night and checked it the oil level was like an inch too high. O well.

 

I havent had any damage yet, I have filled it up too much twice now. But I wouldnt plan on over filling all the time.

 

have u overfillled it as much as i have...maybe .5 quart? what would get damaged anyway?

 

Hey guy's if the oil foams up too much it will cause major damage think about it you are pumping air saturated oil through the engine that means all the bearings and lubricated parts are getting mostly air pumped to them it would be the same as running it with out oil because either way it's not lubricating they way it should.
