Raptor frame bracing
#12
We are on our second rappy frame - first one started cracking, we welded it up, gusseted it, etc......next thing is cracks everywhere!!! By the time we got a new one we counted 20 places the first frame had cracked! And in one place the metal had actually blown out - like a flower!!! It was the wierded thing I have ever seen! This bike is raced VERY hard, however - and most of that use was with the stock shocks......we bought a new stocker (got it at cost) and with Custom Axis suspension, we figure it will hold together much longer. Just about any stock frame on any quad is going to crack if it's raced hard.......some just crack quicker than others.

I've been chasing cracks for the past year. So far I have repaired 4 actual cracks in various different areas. Numerous other areas have the paint chipped and "puckered" where it's going to develop a crack eventually. This is rampant on the upper rear shock mount area.
A new OEM frame is an option but it'll just crack too. The frame cracking, one-way, tranny (twice), and numerous other problems finally convinced me to look for a diffeent platform. I'll patch up the cracks as they come and hopefully un-a$$ this thing soon !?

Fisher - Which part is cracking, is it the flat metal of the rear shock upper mount itself or the round cross bar that holds the upper mount? If it's the cross bar, is it cracking where it joins the vertical frame rails or in the center where the shock mount is attached? Thanks!

So far the following areas have actually cracked and have been welded:
1) Lower right rear corner.
2) Upper Left main tube (about where your knees are)
3) Left lower subframe mount (on main frame)
4) Right Subframe Y (near coolant tank)
Areas that look like they are going to crack (puckered paint) are primarily on the welds that hold the upper rear shock mount to the main cross tube. Just about all of the joints are showing stress. Also, a couple spots where the tube meets the main frame are chipping.
