Hurry if you want a Raptor

I ordered my Blue Raptor today. If your do want want one, most dealers are only going to get a couple so you better put a deposit on one. This one will be a serious hill shooter. Just add a turbo or some NOS on it let her rip. I can't wait. Also it will be a good all around quad so I might have to by another one for just play riding.

I talked to 3 different dealers and they all say that their allocation is 3 units for the first run. Their next shipment will not be until possibly December or January. One dealer had already pre-sold the first 3 in.
I will be getting the first blue 660r at my dealer and I paid $6499. Those of you who wait to see the reviews will miss out because if every dealer only gets 3, there will not be one when you decide you want it. You can also expect Yamaha to take a price increase before the 2002 models are released. Buy one now and pay the MSRP. My philosophy is that if I don't like it, I can just sell it for at least what I have in it and keep my Banshee. Supply and demand suggests that the Raptor will bring a premium price, even used.

I really hope the Raptor is everything that you want in a quad. I am a little leary abou buying the first new quad available with out having an outside agency (i.e. the magazines) doing some testing on one first. Believe me, once they start shipping Raptors, there will be no shortage of them. My wife works at one of the big dealerships in Tucson and they get truckloads of DS650's. They sell very quickly but if you want one you only have to wait a month at the most. The dealer wants you to believe that you will be the only kid in town with this new machine, but the reality is by January or Febuary Raptors will be out in packs. I would really suggest waiting until there is a machine you can actually sit on before you put money down. The only people that have been on one of these things is YAMAHA EMPLOYEES! Of course they are going to tell us that the machine is perfect. Of course they are going to tell us it is faster than banshee and DS650. Are they going to tell you that reverse engagement is a hassle or that the stock handlebars are weak? Those are things you find out from somebody who owns one. It looks like a great machine, and it probably is, but to believe that it is perfect is a little optomistic.

I'll have to agree with ridzhard. As much as I want a new Raptor, I'll still wait a year until any possible problems get worked out. I'm not saying that there will be problems, but you never know. Just look at the new Honda Ranchers. Honda had problems with weak welds on the frame on early units. People would be riding along and the welds would break causing major problems.

Thanks for letting me know that you share my opinion. I really hope the Raptor is great, but if you visit the Bombardier forum there are lots of people in a panic because their DS650 will be outdated, slow, not the newist, whatever. I think we are going to find that the Raptor will fit into a different category that any other quad out there.
