MX4life! If you have that kind of hookup, then I'd say it would be worth it! With parts at cost and no labor charges, tranny repairs cost about $200 (general ball park figure). That is if you just fix what's gone bad and replace all the forks and some gears at once......that isn't for the upgrade to an 02 tranny. When our rappy was repaired with 01 internals, it would last a good 6 months of racing before it went out again. If you don't ride your rappy hard, you would probably have a lot longer of a time span between tranny repairs.........you might also want to take a good look at the swingarm. Those stockers can crack pretty quick...........

I have had a lot of people ask me how come my Raptor is holding up better then there's. My answer was simply "Follow the Maintenance to a tight T". I never start it in gear always in neutral. I change the oil every 4th ride or 10 to 15 hours. At Start up I always half choke and let idle for about three to five minutes before riding. Like I said before when I had it gone through 2 weeks ago everything from the tranny to the one way that is always mentioned is still in perfect shape. There maintenace guy also said since I start it in Neutral that will help out a lot on the starter issue that he has heard.

Starky,

The 01's do have a reverse limiter. It is set much higher than the 02 and later models but it is there. Anyone who has been in reverse in dune sand has undoubtedly nailed it more than once.

The best thing to do is to not use reverse. I know it's handy but it's murder on your tranny. You will prolong the life of any bike trans w/ reverse by using it sparingly or not at all if you can help it. Any year, any bike.
