Default Edelbrock carb, take it, puh-lease!!!

I've been out riding a couple times now that I have my Edelbrock carb installed on my Raptor. Oh my God, could the thumb throttle be any stiffer?!? Did Edelbrock do this on purpose?!? I can't believe that they released this product to market with such a crappy throttle system.

I don't really want to convert over to the twist throttle set-up, but something has to give with it. The pull is just insane.

Any suggestions?

Trade for a couple FCRs??

LOL, that bad???

I heard before I got the Lectron that it was pretty stiff, so I was expecting the worse. I really don't think its that bad though.

How about a easy push thumb throttle? The arm is normally longer, but it would be cheaper than a pair of FCRs.

Mine is pretty bad. I'm in shape but it doesn't take too long for arm pump to set in after some hard riding. I'll look into the easy push thumb throttle, but I'm not sure how much it will help.

How is your Lectron?

Did the Carb make a big power difference?

Does it use the stock throttle hardware? I am interested in the carb, but I would take the hard pull into consideration...

I know you can get different springs for the Lectron, maybe you can for the Edelbrock.

Alaska, I really like it. It added a nice boost in power! And like I said its not as bad to pull as I thought. My first trip with it I rode for about 2-3 hours, straight, in the dunes and it didn't bother me at all. I still wonder (and probably always will) if I could have done better with a bigger carb, but I am still very impressed. And it was way more better on the wallet than those dang FCRs.

I thought about a twist for mine. With the long pull it took alot out of the stock thumb throttle housing to give it a long enough throw to open it all the way. While I was grinding some out I went through the side of it. You couldn't see it unless I showed it too you, its such a small spot, but I still know its there.

HPD makes a long throw (maybe easier I am not sure) thumb throttle, but its almost $100.

Maybe sixsixT is on to something. Or maybe possibly see if a spring from a Lectron would work for it. From what I understand the are made quite similar.

VegasRaptor - I had the same basic set-up as you before I put the Edelbrock on. It gave a very healthy boost in low-end and also increased the mid and top. The powerband is now totally linear and pulls from bottom to top without any hit. I like it alot, and am wondering what it will be like with a JE 10.75:1 and Stage 1 HC installed.

RaptorRidr660R - the kit I have uses the stock thumb throttle housing and comes with everything else necessary to install the carb.

Ward660R and sixsixT - I'm definitely going to look into the different spring possibility, that seems the easiest and cheapest route for a good quick fix. I'm still going to research an "easy throw" thumb throttle, though.

Thanks for the help guys!

Give the HPD throttle, or Terry Cable throttle a try. Greater leverage on the armature, and also some stornger, smoother internals.

Moose makes an easy push throttle lever that does'nt look goofy.
