Piped Raptor Vs. Stock Raptor

Mine seems to be very close on the jetting. It does not bog or hesitate at any RPM. Is it possible for it to run smooth without any obvious problems and just not be running as good as it could? If so I am going to lean down my mains a tad.

"This was an 01 Raptor" ......that's probably what your problem is along with tuning problems...if he still has the 01 Tranny in there, his rappy is gonna be faster than yours....all things being equal ofcourse, so even if you did the same kind of mods his would still be faster...

Yea you will have a edge over him. Its sand you need all the power you can get! I dont like riding stock quads in the sand. I feel slow when that 20 thousand dollar banshee flys by me doing 100 lol. Does your friend have his tuned and jetted right for the dunes?

There are so many variables in this question its not even funny;
Brand of pipe
# of discs and/or whether equipped w/ arrestor
full pipe or slip on
proper/improper jetting
air filter design
airbox lid/design
location of powerband on new pipe
and the constants:
rider wieght
weight of other modifications
rider skill
etc.
Regardless, the vast majority of piped quads will outperform stock machines. One important aspect is what kinds of mods you plan to do in the future. A larger headpipe gives you more headroom for future mods, but sacrafices midrange. A smaller one like the gtyr increases power, but leaves very little room for performance enhancements.
Pipes can be found as cheap as 100 bucks for a slip on, to 600+ for a sparks full and higher for specialty drag, race, etc pipes. It all depends on what you are trying to accomplish with the modification.

I beat my two buddies piped Raptors in the 300ft drag by quite a bit.
I was running 5.8 and 5.7
They were running 6.0 and 6.2's
So that's the differnce there, but on long pavement runs, I drive right by them and walk away easily.

A piped/filter/jetted Rappy has about 10 HP more than a stock one depending on how well it's tuned and what pipe you bought. I'd say that if your loosing at all to a stock Rappy when your is piped/filter/jetted you have a serious tuning problem most likly with the carb jetting. Try doing a plug check on it, that'll tell you pretty accuratly if it's jetted right (at least on the top end which is what drag racing is). Pipe/filter/jet kit are the best first mods you can do and the best for the money.

Gary, ten lengths in 100 yards (300ft) ? I think you might be refering to the quarter mile. A 300ft drag takes around 6 secs on a stocker and around 5.8 to 5.9 on a piped raptor. At that short distance a piped raptor is only going about two mph faster than the stocker. More like two to three lengths max.

You should see a big difference on like Gary said a properly <--- tuned piped and jetted bike. There are many bikes that are running around with the wrong jetting that pops and cuts out and carries on so bad going down the track thats its not even funny. It never fails there seems to be one bike everytime I go to the drag that you just kind of grimmice and feel bad for LOL I've actually almost went over before and offered to help them out!
