I am a hunter and have never owned an ATV. I have browsed though the internet at various machines and have been drawn to the 2000 Kodiak. I'm looking for any feedback from anyone that uses there machine for hunting along with trail riding. I guess I'm asking if the Kodiak is a good all-around mountain machine. I also have a question about MSRP. What should I expect to pay for this machine above or below invoice and what that invoice might be? Thanks in advance for your patience in dealing with such an inexperienced buyer.

The MSRP is $6099. The dealer will try & hit you with set up (100-250) plus freight. Check around don't pay MSRP! The 2001 are coming out in the next couple of months, you should be able to find a left over 2000 that they will make you a good deal on. YOu might have to drive a little ways but its worth it to save a couple of hundred dollars.

The Kodiak is an EXCELLENT trail machine. You won't have any regrets on this machine.

I live in the North Georgia mountains and the Kodiak is Awsome. I like the low profile for off cambers and being able to play or work with it. Too much more to mention.

I am also a hunter and I checked both the Kodiak and the Grizzly and I purchased a Grizzly. I heard comments that the Kodiak is underpower. I sometimes need to get off trails to place tree stands or to pick up a deer and the power of the Grizzly comes handy when going over stumps and fallen trees. I actually pulled a Ford Pick up that got stuck in the mud with my grizzly. Depending where you hunt, the Kodiak might do the job, I had a Honda 300 4x4 and I was happy with it. If you stay on the trails you do not need that much power but if you go to "no man's land" you definetely will need it. I hunt SC not FL

Ihunt in upstate New York I enjoy riding my kodiak in all conditions, play, hunt, work it performs well in all conditions. Buy a kodiak and 1 month fron now you'll email me and agree it was the right purchase. I love the automatic don't have to concentrate on shifts just drive esp up big hairy hills you only have to concentrate on the driving not gear shifting.

hey rock,
I am from Fannin county Ga. and am getting ready to buy an atv. Im having a tough time deciding between kodiak/AC 500/SP 500/Mag 500.
have you ridden with any folks on these other bikes? where do you ride? Ever been up to the cohutta wilderness? Im leaning toward Kodiak at this point, did you buy from lake hill? If so whats their deal with taxes? one dealer in Ga. quoted me 7%. Do you find the kodiak has enough power? Im kind of large 6'6" 300#, Too big for kodiak?
Thanks

I test drove a Kodiak and thought it was a nice machine, but at the end of the alley behind the dealership where I was turning around to go back I almost flipped it! I was not going that fast, it is just a narrow machine, and I am used to Polaris. We have a new 425 EXP, and a 325 Magnum.
Of the machines I tested, including a Sportsman, an ArcticCat 500 Auto, Kodiak, even a Honda 400 EX, (My friend has a Foreman, it's ok, but not for me) I bought the Arctic Cat, kept
it 2 weeks, took it back to the dealer where it sits, for sale on consignment. The body roll for
lack of an anti-sway bar and the understeer (push)
make it the worst cornering ATV out there. It rides great, great motor, fast, smooth, great 4x4
system, just corners badly.
I rode another Sportsman, this time on a favorite trail, bought one and I LOVE IT!! The suspension is fantastic, the ground clearance un-matched, great power, smoother than the Kitty, fun to drive, cushy ride, a little oversteer, less in AWD. I'm still not sure about the AWD system, but it seems to work. It is heavy, but that is academic because it does everything well.
I don't know about the grizzly, but it seems to be technically behind these others. It is air-cooled, with no great suspension, a 2-valve motor,
it just seems big and unimpressive.
The Sp is also BIG. You will like it...a lot.
Silly Later, Fourlix
