At low rpm's it spudders. Checked plug and found black. not oily but black. Anything I can do besides changing jets? It's three months old[ five days for me] the guy who had it before me put a yoshi full exhaust and k&n and my figuring goes:he had to jet the carbs for the pipe because if he didn't it would be running lean and no black. So he overjetted? Anyway I'm only speculating, I don't really know any help will be readily accepted.

Well, you could try running without the lid to lean it out. Even so, you're probably gonna have to do some jetting to get it just right. At least setting the needle clip. How low are your rpm's when sputtering?

You most likely are running too rich...try putting the lid on and running it that way...

Has it always done it? If not you could have a float sticking open or a level that is too high.

Alpha,

If the lid is off and he puts it on, it will only make it run richer.

The lid wasn't even on the quad when I got it. There was a small gap where unfiltered air could get in so i jammed a pair of goggles between the end of the filter and the airbox. it spudders anytime below maybe 1/3, 1/4 throttle.

A spudder that low would mean either a problem with the idle jet or the floats. I take the carbs off and make sure the guy you bought it from didn't mess with the idler jets. With just an aftermarket exhaust, you should still be running the stock idler jets. Make sure they are clean and properly installed and that your floats move freely.

Maybe its the pair of goggles jammed in between the filter and the airbox.... take a pic, ive gotta see that... lol

Maybe the goggles are restricting the airflow, giving your carbs less air.... therefore making a lean condition

Oh, after rereading what you wrote... i think you must have meant the closed end of the filter... if so, i have no clue other that its simply jetted too rich
