I hear that "race"Alchohol has a little better oxygen content then Methenol, and is alittle cleaner. Methenol can be pretty dirty at times. But as long as you funel has a screen its not a problem. I has ran the "cheap" stuff or 2 years,and have ran the "expensive" stuff also. and I couldnt tell a difference. JMO.

With all that being said i guess i have some more questions now. Is there anywhere you can go to get a kit to convert your carb to alky or what internally in the carb needs to be changed? Also i assume when you say purge with gas when you're done you mean run all the alky out and run gas for a couple of minutes? Where could i get good methanol or alky? Any ideas or comparisons on how much more gas is burned over reg gas? When you say methanol can get dirty, how dirty, like dirty enough to harm the motor or just not run to its full potency? One more question, i think, would you still keep the same mixture (gas/oil) in a two stroke with alky?

 

Bigger kinda hit on this, what does the alcohol actually do to the seals? Im assuming it dries them out? Is this the reason for purging the system after each ride. Who if any have had problems with the seals being dried out?

First yes that is exactly what i meant by "purging".

Second. You fuel mileage will be cut by about 1/3, so if you normally lasted 2 1/2 hours on a tank, you will only get 1 3/4 hours out of a tank of alky. It all depends on how you jet it. You quad will runn just as good with the alky WAY RICH, but you can tune it to help you gas mileage and still run great.


Third. when I siad "dirty" I meant like trash in your gas. not anything to bad just a little trash.


Fourth. Where to get alky??? ask anyone that races dirt circle tracks(cars),or any drag racers locally. If you have alot of OIL field company's near by, they are a great sorce for ALKY(they use it so that thier wells dont freeze in the winter time).

What seals are you talking about?? The only problem I have had with alky is it does play havick with your Float in your carb, but if you clean it out with carb cleaner once a mounth problem solved.

Does it affect engine reliablity and how long it lasts? All I have to do to run alchy is just raise my jets and dump it in?
