Default Raptor K&N without billet adapter

I posted on this subject before but want to make it clear for those of you buying new Raptors, when you replace the stock air filter with a K&N, make certain you get the filter with the billet adapter. If you just get the filter without the adaptor you will find it is very difficult to get the lid back on the air box....I cracked both my box and the lid doing this. Also, I don't think you can run with the lid off because the filter uses the top notch in the lid to hold it snug to the side of the box.

I just went down yesterday and bought the K&N with the billet adapter. It is so, so easy to put on and take off and I can run without the air box lid. By the way, the two K&N filters are different so don't plan on buying only the replacement filter first and the adapter later....it won't work. I'm now stuck with my first K&N because it won't fit the adapter so it's useless to me.

I had no problems w/ the normal K&N. I put a thicker "gasket" thing in and cut huge holes in the lid so the lid still holds it in. It is difficult to get all the way in though but i've found the seal is tight and have had no problems but who cares? I was actually going to get the pro design billet adaptor but all my friends talked me out of it. Anywho ride on my man.

The first weekend I had mine, I took it to the dunes and when I got home there was sand in the intake hoses! I was like WTF! So I ordered the adapter and K&N the next day. I DO NOT and WOULD NOT trust just the lid holding the filter on. Just my $.02, though, to each his own.

Wallstreet, what is all that stuff in your air box and the piranha picture w/ the hoses going in your carb? Just wondering.

same as wallstreet

got a hold of a used K&N,,,popped it in,,,,went to the dunes,,,,,,,and the sob failed me. Sand everywhere,,,,,got really PO'ed.

It fit in OK,,,,most people put them in upside down.

I wouldnt even give mine away to a rappy owner. It is a horrible rappy mod,,,should be outlawed.

WallStreet, you have one sweeeeeet ride! I strongly urge the use of the adapter because it does not rely on the lid at all. You get a much tighter seal too. Also make sure you have the pre-filter on especially when riding in sand. Without the adapter, it's possilbe to get the lid closed but have a slight gap that may go unoticed. This could also comprimise the seal of the filter itself without the adapter. That may be why it's so easy for sand to find it's way in. Anyway, I just posted this to try and help others learn from my mistake.

there are 2 tabs that are under the filter, right at the base where it sits flush where the carbs openings are,cut those out with a box cutter and the filter will sit better inside the airbox..
