How do you know what octane to run?
Bartlett gave good advice, you will produce the most power with the lowest octane possible I run around 93-94 octane mixing 110 and regular gas. I have 11:1 piston and it seems to produce the best results. Read up about gas and you will under stand why it works this way. I've also heard the 110 octane (with lead) helps lubricate better. I see no point in racing gas in a stock quad, it just hurts it because it wont burn the fuel efficiantly.

poorguy-Bartlettracing is giving you some good advice on this subject and yes you will run slower if you are using too high of an octane in your quad than what it needs.i recently found what appears to be the perfect mix of 92 premium pump gas and 110 octane race fuel for my wifes 440 ex and it made a huge difference.my 11:1 raptor 686 likes 92 octane and no more or the performance starts dropping off.the guidelines that bartlettracing listed are very close to what i have found to be true through experimenting on my own quads so try some different variations on your quad to see what will perform best for you.there is a lot more to be gained from( proper) octane levels than i used to think but i now know better.

Octane is a rating of a fuels resistance to ignite. The higher the octane, the harder it is to get to ignite. A higher octane may be necessary to prevent pre-ignition and detonation in a high performance engine. Higher octane fuel will generally burn slightly slower than a lower octane fuel which could require a change in ignition timing. Using more octane than you need will not help power, the slower burn rate will actually cause you to lose some power.
